The bulb planter is so cute. :)
You Guys are very creative.
Those are really nice.
Chocolate Brug
very nice.. stupid question!! What are you guys using to make these? And if it is the Ornaments that you purchased what are you cutting them with? I do a lot of gifts for nursing home patients and this has given me an idea.
Janice
well I got bulbs that were from Eddie's suggestion hollow plastic.. I used a utility knife...just trace around an outline drawn on the bulb... over and over.. it's not real easy..be sure the bulbs aren't glass... I made an eliptical hole.. if you were wanting a round hole.. you could use a hole saw in a drill ..much easier.. a drimmel hand grinder would be about the best... I'm thinking afew stars cut into the bulb might be nice... in keeping with the theme I could do them with a thin grinding wheel on the" 4 1/2 grinder.. a thin.. fine sabersaw blade held.. in a pair of vice grips would also work well... for irregularly shaped holes..
besure to put holes in the bottom... I just spun the utility knife around...and made the holes there or use a drill
remember... I'm a professional... don't recessarly try this at home... be sure to use a hollow bulb..
Thanks,, when hubby get homes this weekend we will try one in his shop. So many of the ladies love getting little plants that they can tend to.
Janice
Great idea! Thanks for the information, Gordon. I was going to ask the same questions Janice did.
Gordon, thank you I will do that. I have been gone for a while and forgot how much I enjoyed you and all the rest.
Joan
Well thanks Joan ... I enjoy all the rest also..
Veronica.. yes.. thanks for all your help too..
Janice... thanks... good luck with yours...
I had to find a better way to cut them..aside from drilling.. they were all too much work... got a new way now...
I use the metal utility knife... and hold the blade in the flame on the range.. then I trace lightly where I wish to cut... and then reheat... and trace again... in short order it has drifted into the ornament.. and I'm running around the area to be removed.. tracing and heating... and it's through effortlessly.. although it is a bit smokey.. the melting plastic and all... it doesn't have to be super hot.. I did the more intricate cut outs on this new one in that manner.. following the glitter lines.

I've seenafewofthecontainer homes...they had an exhibit of some here... each designer hadtheir take on what they might looklike...andthey also stack reall well...guessthey goabout 6-8 levels high... insulation or a foam outside sheathing is necessary as the comtainers metal will surely heat it up..

Oh I wish I had read this before Christmas, will definately try for next year though. Sue
Thanks Gordon and Eddie, the ladies at the nursing home really loved the ones hubby cut for me. He used the heated knife method. I only regret that I did not take pics of them before we carried them to the nursing home. Thanks. Your ideas made a lot of senior ladies very happy. Oh there was a few of them men that wanted them also.
Janice
Janice, It was very sweet of you and you husband to do this for those ladies.
Yes..Janice... I'd loved to have seen pictures.... great you were able to spread the cheer... It seems that no matter what age... everyone loves to see something of beauty they haven't seen before...
