My yellow "Christmas Cactus" are blooming. Suppose they had better be renamed "Thanksgiving". The others have bloomed long ago at Halloween, but here are some pictures to cheer you up.

Here is a Rhipsalidopsis XNOID currently blooming. Imagine that, an Easter Cactus blooming in November. But my plants seem to bloom as they want, no matter what I do.

And Lavina, check in the Cactus and Succulent forum for more Schlumbergia posts.

Orchidman, that is a real beauty. Love the color. Waiting for more blooms!

BTW, my two yellow ones I just purchased are still in their smaller containers and I want to plant them permanently in the hanging basket. I thought the best time to repot them would be to wait until after they bloom. Am I correct? Or should I wait until spring?

waiting for mine to bloom, covered in buds. I have white, red, hot pink and coral. I bought one that is labeled yellow but haven't seen buds yet.

JeanK:
To my knowledge, you are correct. Re pot after all bloom is gone. Doing so when buds are evident will make the plant drop its buds.

Orchidman what kind of plant is that? I don't think I have ever seen it before.

Does anyone have any pics of truly giant schlums? About 10 years ago, I saw one which was with 6' or longer stems growing in a window, but not in bloom. They can get really big like that if sheltered. I always wanted to see it in bloom, but that was not possible.

Mountlake Terrace, WA(Zone 8a)

I have one with 3-4' stems, but not longer. It bloomed already around Thanksgiving.

Hello all. just admiring all your Schlums. I can't call mine Christmas Cactus because being down here upside down so to speak, mine all bloom in April through to July ( our winter ). I have around 45 different ones . I have lots of the Hatiora (rhipsalidopsis ) which are blooming now. .
I have lots ( about 500 ) of epiphyllums which have just finished flowering.
I find that being a lot cooler here, all my white schlums are usually pale pink and even the yellows have pink tinges. Still lovely though. Have to get used to calling them schlumbergera as they tend to be all called zygos here. This is a good name for the time of year "Sleigh Bells"

I am in trouble, I want all of the colors now. I did not know there was so many different ones. And the epis are gorgeous also.

My Oh My ,I see a bigger green house in my future . Now to break the news to Hubby.LOL

Lavina

Yes Dori, they are all named and I have several of some .The purple one that is most likely Buckleyii has been the most common over here until new hybridisers started with the different colors. Our shops usually only stock any schlums when in flower so it takes a while to find the different ones.
Lavinia, watch out, my shade house was once only small , then hubby said the epis looked crowded so we built on further until the whole thing now measures around 60 feet long by 12 feet wide. We also built a new room on this year ( 12 feet x 20 feet). It's like walking into a jungle now. The schlums also need an extension onto their shadehouse. I think I may have to stop collecting them and look after what I have as we have no more room for extensions.
I also have 200 irises so I think I qualify as a plantaholic.
This is Gold Fantasy.

yes, the gold fantasy is beautiful!

Merino, Australia

It's just a pity that here where I live , the weather can be so changeable. My white schlums are rarely white, mostly pale pink due to the cooler temps. Even the yellows and golds all get that pink tinge. I would love to have them in clear yellow and gold as I see in some pictures. I see in Mark Cobia's book that what we have here as Gold Fantasy, is patented and sold in USA as Christmas Flame. It is actually a mutation of Gold Charm.
One should never read books on plants one likes. You end up wanting all the pictured plants.
Heres an unnamed beauty. Could be Sunburst fantasy.

I had an interesting discussion with a woman working at the one of the best nursery in the area, where I passed on a beautiful yellow "Golden Dancer", about Schlum hybrids, and it seems if you want old ones you need cuttings from folks who have the older plants, as plant sellers only sell the best and newest hybrids.
