How to build a Really BIG Christmas Tree

Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

Recently, DH and I attended a Bee Convention right here in lovely San Diego, CA. During the times when DH was in meetings, I explored the grounds and found that our patio overlooked the spot where the staff of the HH were erecting their Christmas Tree.
Being easily amused and quite interested in the process, since we grow the things, I had to watch and take photos. Since I thought you'd be interested in how they did it, I'm sharing it with you.
Enjoy!

This was what I saw when I got out and about the first morning of the convention, Nov. 17th. We'd just gotten back from brunch when I realized what what going on with all that heavy equipment. LOL!

I was wondering how they were "framing the interior for support of those pre-lighted panels of greenery, when I saw this.
BTW, you notice they started with a small ladder, moved up to a bigger ladder, the two guys are working together, with the guy on the cherry picker handing the guy on the inside a section at a time. I wasn't close enough to see how each panel attached to the surrounding ones. I did like the way that the power lines all ran up the one pole.

The center post also has these umbrella like arms that are supporting each panel. I think that they overlap a couple of inches, seems kinda sparse in some places doesn't it?

The guys quit for the day, but it gave me a chance to take some better photos of the center of the tree, 'cause I wanted to see the substructure.

That pole just doesn't look strong enough to support all that weight. I wonder what it is made of?

The Power Cords are taped to the pole at intervals.

I guess I'd tape them too if I was running them up the pole while creating the tree. Keeps 'em from slipping back down and takes some of the weight off the installer.

The next section upwards. Yet to be installed but the "framework" is visible.

By Golly, this must be the top of the frame work!

The next morning, the guys were out there discussing how they would proceed, I guess? While I was having a cup of tea. The hot choc from SB's was disappointing to say the least and tasted like coffee. So tea and honey it was, along with this view.

You've noticed that they've left an opening to the interior, and I sure appreciated it being pointed towards me. I really learned a lot.
I should have asked what the distance between those umbrella like supports were. They do overlap the panels.
This is the first section of the new tier of greenery.

This gives a better view of the activities.

I don't know, what that is called. A crossbreed between a crane and a cherry picker? Odd looking. What's holding that pole up anyway?

I'm relieved to see he is wearing a safety harness.

Panel by panel these two work together. The guy in the lift on the outside bringing up the panels and the guy on the inside hooks the panels together and is also checking to make sure the lights are working.

You know the people who make the safety harness should use this photo in their ads. I mean how often do you see someone in a suit wearing a harness like that? I mean really! I'd laugh except it still hurts. So you guys laugh for me. : - )

Oops, photos reversed!
Can you help me find that line?

AH! Now the lights are working!

Continuing to build that 4th tier, one section at a time.

I was gone for a short time and when I returned I discovered they topped the tree with another tree. That is the only thing DH and I can think of to explain this trees odd shape at the top. It looks kinda like a rocket except for the star already in place.

He's going back up to close the gap! Lights are working!

About half way up that last section.

I'm not entirely sure what this guy is doing.

I hope he's enjoying the ride. : - )

Adding a bit more greenery to fill her out.

Okay, what's he up to? Is he putting up lines to keep that tree from moving?

Thumbnail by SingingWolf
Menifee, CA(Zone 9a)

You can see a couple of the lines if you look close. We walked over and counted four different trees it was tied between.
Now he is decorating the tree.

They used the red bucket for hauling up ornaments.

And the green box to hold bigger ones in.

Putting the ornaments on from top to the bottom. Boy it sure has been a long two days.

The other two lines holding up the tree. We walked over for this photo. I knew that there had to be more than two, or it wouldn't be stable.

From a different point of view. This is what people will see when entering the drive to the HH.
