This bug was captured on film in June. I still can't ID it. There is one other view below. Can you ID it for me?
CLOSED: Fuzzy Black Bug
This is a robber fly (Diptera: Asilidae); possibly in the genus Efferia - see http://tinyurl.com/y9ufd8g for an example. These flies are ambush predators on other small arthropods, usually darting out from a perch to nab something (note those spiny legs), then returning to dine in leisure.
