Moonflower Seedpods

Bowie, MD

I have a question and I'm sure the answer is probably in this forum somewhere but I'm being lazy since I don't have much time (who does)? Anyway, I have several moonflower vines that have been hit by a light frost and the plants are zapped. However, all of their seedpods are still hanging on the vines. Each time I grab one because it looks like it's going to be ripe (all brown and crisp) I open it and the seeds are soft so I'm sure those would not germinate.

My question is there anyway to save this seed? If I cut them all off and put them somewhere will they continue to ripen or is there nothing I can do? This same thing seems to happen to me year after year. I love moonflowers and they do great and make tons of seedpods, but they take forever to ripen and it's always the same story.

Any help anyone can offer will be greatly appreciated. Thanks and have a great day!

Leave them as long as possible on the vine. They still get some food for ripening, unless the vine is completely dried out. Here I had frost 4 weeks ago, but still find ripe seeds. The seeds do not dry easily in cold temps, but if the pod is brown and dry, you can harvest them and let them dry for a few weeks in a paper bag.

Thank you I will try your suggestion.
