WESTERN HUMMINGBIRDS VOL.8

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

My Annas are doing their mating skydiving stunts and scaring me to death. They go straight up into the air and then take a fast dive straight down. It's amazing how they can miss hitting any trees on the way down.

Thanks Margaret!

Duc, Those are wonderful shots!

Cupertino, CA(Zone 9a)

OK Duc, I'm officially jealous. The kitchen window? That new camera of yours must be awesome. I remember when
you got it. I know this is your hobby but, you should be professional. Incredible. :)

My Canon point and shoot will never get the results you get. Besides, my windows are dirty. LOL!!!!!!!!!!

I'm so happy to see your hummer again.:) :):)

PERTH, Australia

Fantastic shots, duc.

Renton, WA

Great Shots Duc. Raising up and looking at you.
Its warmed over freezing and weather people looked in
their crystal ball and said 50's by the weekend. Crazy stuff,
but great.
Mrs.Ed -- I love the idea of a heated bath for hummers,
maybe I'll work on it and see what happens,
and if its successful, since you thought of it,
can I give you credit and we could name the product, Mrs Ed's Hot
Bottom or sum'thing like that. Think of the happy hummers
enjoying warm nectar with your name on it.
Anyways its way --- way-- better than my idea.
And I don't even have a name for it.

OMG… ROFL. Yah Dirt, I'll go for that! It's just another one of my inventions on the list. Right up there with the "Bottoms Up!" Hummingbird feeder pajamas and 'Top of the Morning" hummingbird feeder hats.

Renton, WA

You are quite the inventor, Mrs. Ed
Enlighten me 'bout the PJ's, please.
I use socks and could get a whole
wardrobe outfitted.

a bad shot, the only one-- they are still
skittish about the new location and any
movement and they disappear quickly
and also the hawk is out there constantly
badgering all the birds.

cloudy but cheery,
have great days-- thankyou for being part
of OUR product placement. WE can be rich
if only in smiles.

Well, last June, Nanny_56 was outside feeding a cat and a hummingbird came up to her pajamas to check out the red snowflakes on the PJs.

I thought we'd make some and have embroidery on the bottom (leg), but then Dellrose thought I meant the BUM

anyway, it's in this thread
http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/993299/

PATENT PENDING! LOL

Renton, WA

How about red satin jammies with tubular flowers embroidered on the bottom. We could make a fortune. Margaret, add that to my hat invention!

Satin??--- flowers and snowflakes.
wont get caught dead in em, slide right off,
scare those little birdies so bad you would have Anna's in Illinois.
LOL.
Now we at least know what the design will be.
And maybe a free tat.
And that was a fun thread. 40-50 hummers- that would be a sight.

Maybe I should of edit the last comment in that
if you Mrs.Ed do make those PJ's many people would
love them and hope you do when you do it.
PS Belated Happy Birthday--

Back to normal-- lovely dreary gray rainy weather--
hummers out early and a male is trying to play king-
not sure if its 'wee'tsee' but later need to go work out
there and bring the camera and see if I get a pic.
Lots of plants are drooped over from the freeze--
always not a pretty sight-- again- camellias blossoms
froze out-- they were for hummers - maybe next year.

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Well dirt, as soon as i get that invention manufactured, I"ll be sure to include a men's line!

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Dirt, sorry your camellias froze. I would have imagined all your blooms had frozen after those cold temps.

I've been waiting for a hummer to land on the red Toyon tree berries and so far, my only shot was sadly blurred. Oh well, at least I can see the bird.

Dirt, I'm sorry too your camelias froze. I always look forward to my favorite flower I love to float bloom.

Duc, I know you'll have more chances if other birds don't eat all those Toyon berries.:)

I took this shot yesterday. It's the only one of this female Anna to somewhat turn out.

I just resized it to see if it looks any better

G'moring, Pretty bird CC. and
cool berries Duc, those little guys have cover
and good keep around them.
This one is the reigning champ as of yesterday,
New birds here, again drawn to the red plates of the reg. feeder
and I watched them methodically probe all the colorful
stuff- once they got to the little christmas tree outside
they (two males I think) found the feeders and were
really drinking as much as they could. Then the
third guy who was on the arbor with these sharp 'shoulders'
asserted himself and they were really active while I was at home.

closer shot rasping away,
course I was doing it too,
not that I'm good at it,
sometimes I must hit a
certain tone or sound sequence that makes
those guys turn and watch.

This roost where many of these hummers
like to hang out is inbetween the feeders and
the arbor. There is more cover for me to approach
them and if I slowly do it most stay. There is no
cover against the house and most flee.
Have a great day.

Wonderful shots dirt, claudcat and duc!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Catching up on all the wonderous shots! Thankfully the hummers seem to be undaunted by the cold snap(s). I am poofing with pride to advise that red satin jammies are my official gardening attire much to the mortification of my DH and the amusement of our neighbours. MargaretK I have been popping and peeking into the Australian forum lately cuz there be dahlias there now ^_^ I'm in Santa Fe at the moment. Snowfull and no hummers to report. Heading south now to meander about where I am hoping to find hummers.

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

CC, your little hummer is a cutie. Hope it will stay through the winter and enjoy your pretty blooms.

Dirt, your little "champ" is a tough guy. Looks like he's ready to rule the world. So cute!

This little guy was just trying to stay warm.

Thanks Duc, So far so good. I hope it stays too!!!!

I love your hummer. :) :)

Renton, WA

great wonderful detail Duc,
very windy nasty rain--
this windswept Anna was
listening to another rasping
away the news or gossip or maybe
some holiday poetry.
Guess Mrs Ed has customers lined up everywhere-
maybe I could change my mind --
red satin jammies, bright orange muscle T, neon pink
trucker cap and bent over weeding-
that would get the hummers to notice.
put it on my last minute Xmas wish list and hope
Santa doesn't see it.
and like Montgomery Gentry says.
Gone.
great day to all.
