I'd trade some Grackles for Sparrows! We've had a lot of grackles invading the feeders this week.
Today has been extremely quiet at my backyard and front yard feeders for some reason. There were a bunch of sparrows in a couple of feeders a little while ago. My Fla bird book shows lots of different sparrows and they all look alike to my old eyes so I'm not sure which sparrow these are. This is not a good picture, they would scatter when I got close.
Daily's Pics #259
I have heard that House sparrows are on the decline in Eng. I wonder why.
No-one knows, that's what is really worrying. What we don't know, we can't do anything about. Several forms of pollution have been implicated, but no proof.

They're Chipping Sparrows
Resin
^_^ Thank you for the identification Resin! It's nice to know what my little birds are! I've just looked them up in my bird book and it says the Chipping Sparrows are an abundant winter resident of this area and are likely to be seen here from mid October to mid May.
Right now, this is the only critter visiting the feeders ... he/she and family love the peanuts
Hey, plantladylin, your cardinal looks fine to me. My Chippers are long gone from here.
Burd_Fotos, what, you couldn't find a red cardinal :) and that homemade WP feeder is cool.
reddirtretiree, I haven't seen a Goldfinch in weeks, but I have several Downy WP's around.
nanny_56 - as for House Sparrows, I have tons of them. But my House Finches are waning. Nice snap of the Jay in the woods, too.
Hack
Nice shots everyone!
Good one of the Eagle duc!
About a 1/2 hour ago, my neighbor called and said he found a small owl in his house and wondered if I'd be interested in having it. I went down to his house and found what appears to be a very sick Western Screech-Owl. The bird is now in my front room in a cage where it can be warm. It doesn't show any interest in it's surroundings. I don't hold out much hope for it's survival.
Oh Adel, I hope the little one get to feel better.
adel, is there a rehabber you can contact?
pelle...................don't know of any re habers in this area, I'll do some checking.
I'd get some over-the-counter antibiotics for birds and force feed him if he won't eat.
Oh that is too bad...gosh you would think there would be some place to take it or get some help or advice...a zoo maybe?
The owl is perking up a little. It's moved around in the cage and notices when I come close to it. It's still far from well, but it seems better than it was when I first brought it home.
Nice Shots Al !! Adel if you have an eye dropper try to give it some water for now (not too much), more than likely if it was found in a house it may be weak from no food or water and attempts to free itself. I would like to see the lil guy make it, hopefully. :(
Is pix Al,
Adel, here is a list of CA. Region 1 Rehabbers.

Beautiful shots, Al. I see lots of Yellow-rumped Warblers here now, but they rarely stay still long enough for a pic.
Great shots, Methodical. I've been seeing lots of YR Warblers around, but they are always in thick brush and don't stay still for long. No pics.
Went for a walk in a local park yesterday and got a few shots.
I think this is a Cooper's Hawk. He dove off his perch and through the trees and I never got a good look at his profile nor frontal view.
