burn, please post that first pic over at the photos forum also....it's beautiful!
GP, they were exactly my thoughts. Burn, lovely shots to start the thread and the opener is fantastic.
Great opening Burn! The gathering of the crows for the evening is terrific shot. Thanks Burn for the new thread.
Thanks for starting the new thread burn! Wonderful shots! Beautiful sunset.
Nice pics nanny!
Resin............thanks for re working the Bluebird pic. I don't have photoshop. Is it a freebee?
Adel, if you have Vista it may have come with Picasa which you can also edit photos with.
Great shot of the pileated, Dellrose....I am so jealous!
I'm too very excited to see the Pileated WP! I've yet seen one in person, love the pictures everyone.
wowee. nice and close!
I see what you mean about the legs and feet on the Junco, Nanny.
Rose, what a beautiful bird the Pileated is. That was your reward for being stuck inside for a week.
Thanks for your nice comments everyone.
Nanny, I like your house finch. It reminds me of the Purple finches, I had this Summer, which I 'm anxious for their return. Cute Junco with the black feet.
Rose, wow, would like to see that in my yard. Beautiful shots.
Gee, I could have sworn that I posted this morning but I don't see my comments ... must be gremlins in my machine again ... or more than likely this old blonde forgot to hit send which wouldn't surprise me as it's happened before!
burn: That first pic of the sunset is stunning! Love the gull, black capped chickadee and of course the Jay, my favorite backyard bird.
Nanny: That little house finch is so bright in color, very pretty. I love that little Junco with those long legs ... too cute! Do you always have Robins this time of year? We only see them for maybe two weeks in spring when they are migrating back north.
dellrose: Great shot of the Pileated! We only see one of those beauties on rare occasions. They sure are loud with that distinct call, arent' they?
Well, my camera skills are practically nil but I was able to get a couple of birds in photo's today. I must admit though ... when I downloaded a few times, there was no bird ... guess I am just too slow! This isn't a great picture, it would have been nice if I had zoomed in. I cropped as much as possible so you can at least see the bird.
Rose, Those are outstanding shots of the Pileated. Your so lucky to have them!
Nice Photo's Everyone!! Very nice start with the Sunset and Crow's burn! My Black-caps were landing on the feeder today while I was adding seed, and a White-breasted Nuthatch gave it a try but changed his mind. :)
Nanny, the Junco's may have big feet, but I think they make up for that with curiosity. I have one that has hopped up to the the patio door (glass) several times, like he just wants to see what or who is in there.
Dellrose those are really nice shots of the Pileated! Ive seen one all year for like 2 seconds. But someone has recently tipped me off where one hangs out quite often, but the weather has not cooperated yet so.
plantladylin no problem finding the Cardinal nice shot! Ive been waiting for some Cardinals to show up and today a couple were viewing the feeder area but did not come in.

ugh Bird. That's what my yard has been looking like too. Silly Sparrows. Can't keep the suet feeders or peanut silos loaded for very long with them around.
Plantlady, Some robins do stay in the area all winter but they are just rarely seen. We have lots of birds like that where I live. The Bluebirds and the Pileated Woodpeckers are ones that are not seen on a regular basis but they are here year around.
Nice ones rose of the PW!! I have seen one flying around but it hasn't stopped by. LOL
Our House Sparrows seemed to have thinned out a bit, thank goodness!
Same cute little Junco...
Probably the reason why the Junco comes to the patio door. :|
Nice flock of House Sparrows! I've not seen that many together in years - I'm doing well if I get more than 3 together.
Resin
Burd: Now that's what I call a Red Bird! The color is so vivid on that cardinal. Is that a hairy or downy on the log feeder? We have both down here but the hairy is rarely seen. Downies built a nest cavity in a camphor tree in our backyard this past spring and I still see them at the feeders on occasion but this time of year it's mostly the Red-bellied woodpeckers that we see. They hang around all year. Speaking of that log feeder, it's a great idea ... I need to have my husband make me a couple of those, perfect for suet and my peanut butter/seed mixture. I also need him to make me a new platform feeder. The old one finally fell apart a few years back and I miss it. Are those sparrows all over the ground in that one photo? I'm really learning a lot from this forum ... I thought they were some sort of wrens. We have sparrows and wrens here and I should start paying more attention and learning one from the other!
Nanny: I just love that Junco, it would make a cute cartoon character with those long legs and big feet, it is a pretty little bird! I just looked in my Florida bird book and it shows a photo of a Dark-Eyed Junco and says their winter range is North and Central Florida but that wintering flocks are primarily in North Fla. I wonder if the one in your photo is a female, the photo I saw of a male was darker and my book says the females are duller in color than the males which seems to be the case with a lot of birds.
duc: Wow, amazing shot of the Bald Eagle. I haven't seen one in awhile although Florida has a large Bald Eagle population.
I have heard that House sparrows are on the decline in Eng. I wonder why. As they appear in large flocks here in New England.
Oh Resin, that is so hard to believe. I just don't understand how they can flourish over here and be on the decline there.
There were about 40 House Sparrow's altogether, Ive seen twice that amount before though.
