I think that's what ken does, when they get their leaves, I meant to count my babies, just haevn't got around to it, I have several from seeds this spring, some are fast growers them some aren't, I did get me a bag of soil just for seeds, I don't think it has fertalizer in it

When I started my seeds, I mixed 1/2 peat and 1/2 perlite.I figured that was close enough to seed starter mix, which is what I have always used for seeds.

Dee
I have always used the little peat disks, but I planted way more than what came up, so I thought I would do it different
next Feb, just to see if more of the seeds came up
Elizabeth

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

I don't know ifI like those or not. I don't have much luck, but I am going to try it again to see if maybe it wasn't just me.
Got to keep trying. right?
Charleen

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

I am just treating them like I have treated my other seeds in the past.I did read that they like bottom heat, so I had the container on the heating pad til they strted popping, then I moved them off of there and closer to the lights. When they get their fist set of true leaves, I will transplant to individual pots. Do you like the peat disks?`

Girls, I am gonna get off of here. My DH wants on a while and I have to some laundry to put up. Catch ya tomorrow.
Dee

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

I like to take that webbing off when I plant the plants. I think that is what I don't like about them. My husband plants the whole thing, then when he pulls the plants out they are still attached.

Dee & charlene
I did like the dics, but I will see if the soil works better, I have both to make a comparision, sometimes you just have to try something different to see what works best, I also keep records of how my garden did overall, I have to add cow manure, pretty soon, that way it's decomposed in the spring, I am hoping lowes still has it
Elizabeth

Hamilton, OH

Charlene
I agree it should be removed, so the roots can grow

Dee
have a good evening, talk to you tommorrow

Elizabeth

Dee

Dee
all winter, I get plants ready for mothers day sale, some of them are for the sale, I am going to cut Versa orange down
& mulch it just to see if it makes it, I have never had the nerve to do that before, so we'll see what happens in zone 6
& Brugs
Elizabeth

Hamilton, OH

Dee
would you like some brug seeds? I have a few extra, yours are doing so well, I just thought you might like a few
Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

I sure would love some seeds,Elizabeth. Thanks! I love growing anything from seed. After all these years, it's still amazing to me...what comes out of a tiny seed. What do you do with all them, when you grow them from seed? Do you keep them all or let friends grow some out in different areas of the country? I'm just wondering what I'm going to do with all of the Jaycana x daydreams, if they make it...lol
Dee

Hamilton, OH

Dee
I give them to friends, with the seeds you never know what you're going to get with the seeds, so you might want to keep a few
Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

I do plan on keeping a few, but I don't know where I would keep 12-18 of them...lol...The extras will be great for sharing with friends and neighbors, so I can keep up with how they are doing.
Dee

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Have you girls looked on e-bay lately. I always watch a few sellers.eddie dewayne has some great deals on doubles right now. Pick any 3, and pick any 4. It's a shame it's so close to Christmas, and I am watching every penny.I'd jump on some of them..lol
Dee

Hamilton, OH

Dee
Alice Harris has a few on there also, they're Monica's from germany
Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Dee
most of my Christmas was done Oct, 15th, just so I could go shopping for next Christmas on Black Friday, I have maybe 3 gifts to buy, 1 birthday & 2 Christmas gifts
Elizabeth

Hamilton, OH

Dee
really pricey, but Georgeous, I have one or 2 of hers, Alliquippa & I can't think of the other one, when Alliquippa gets big
I can share with you
Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

You are just tooo generous Elizabeth! But, it is fun to share with others when you know that they love something as much as you do, isn't it? I love sharing too, just don't have as many as you do...lol.. I have been thinking about next year and how fun it will be to find newbies just like I am next year, and hopefully I will be able to swamp them with cuttings...lol
Dee

Hamilton, OH

Dee
I know you will be sharing, the way you pack is amazing, so whoever gets your plants will be a lucky newbie, it's one of the best part of growing these amazing plants, you'll have a bunch, when I look at Monica's site I am more determined to have tree shaped Brugs, her's are beautiful
Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

I looked up Allaquippa, and it is VERY nice. I have seen it before, but couldn't remember what it looked like.Yes, Monica's tree shaped brugs are beautiful. She has some beauties period.
Wonder where Charleen is...must be eating supper. She' knows we are here waiting on her..lol
Dee

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Elizabeth, I am torn between growing them natuaral shaped or standards my first year. I love the standard shape a lot more, but if I let them go natural, I figure I will be able to get more cuttings. When you grow them tree shaped, do the produce more and bigger blooms, because you remove all the side shoots?
Dee

Hamilton, OH

Dee
Charlene is probably eating supper, I can't wait till next Thursday & Friday is over, then I can put my Christmas trees
up I have about 4 of them to decorate, I think Christmas & February are my favorites, anymore I have very little presents
under my tree, I usually give everyone $, that was if they don't like their presents it's their own fault, but I do buy for the youngest one's
Elizabeth

Hamilton, OH

Dee
you're onto something there, I think they do better, it takes a lot of energy, for the side shoots, I think the flowers should be bigger, I was like you I hated to keep clipping them back, but New Orleans lady had bigger flowers this summer, it's almost a standard, it takes up less room in the basement that way
Elizabeth

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

It's hard for me to believe that Thanksgiving is almost here.I think it's because of the weather that we have had this fall. Do you have a theme on your trees?Mine was always just an old fashioned mix of country decorations, but I am adding more and candy type decorations to our tree.Love mixing in real candy on the tree, but that doesn't usually last too long...lol
Dee

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Do you make different goodies...candies..for Christmas Elizabeth. I love making Candies. You know, I have to make buckeyes for one thing every year..lol...I made pralines for the first time last year..mmm...they are good, but I usually get rid of everything asap, because our sugar would be sky high.
Dee

Hamilton, OH

Dee
I use candy canes, I like different ornaments, I use some of the same ones as when my girls were small, also I have added new ones every year, I have 4 trees, so I decorate with home made ornaments that the GK's make, they usually make me cinnamon decorations, so the house smell good, I have some out door evergreens, I will decorate them with dryed lotus pods painted green, red & gold
Elizabeth

Hamilton, OH

Dee
my best friend does the candy, she gives me a tray of goddies as a gift, has cookie & candy's, I try to give her plants
but she has sooo many, I will have to get her something else this year, we have been friends since 1982, where does the time go
Elizabeth

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Dee

Hamilton, OH

Charlene
we have been wondering where were you, it's good to see you here, sounds like you will be busy also, I need to show you the roots on my clippings that have been in the peatmoss for a few weeks, I will take the pic later, nice healthy roots
I am going to mix superthrive with bloom booster & root stimulater to see if I get the same results that everyone else gets using the recipe
Elizabeth
