I agree, great shots Linth. I'm so glad you don't get tired taking photos of the eagles.

Your photos are magical Linth...too bad Ben couldn't see them like you do!! Excellent work!

Linth,
A fascinating thread-I always thought the Osprey was my inspiration but I guess if baldies were present in Australia we'd be pretty proud of them as well. An interesting perspective from Ben Franklin, just goes to show we all get some calls wrong in life. Do you intend to write a book on the 'baldies' you follow - a year in their lives would be fascinating. Thanks for sharing, just too many to comment on, thye all tell a unique story which makes them all special. Please keep posting everything,
Regards
Pete

Thank you all for your comments.

duc, I never get tired of taking photos. However, it is easy to get spoiled. There was a time if I saw one or two Bald Eagles in one day, I was happy. Now, if I don't see 100+ in a day, I am disappointed. In the end, it is the challenge to get something different or something better than the last time. The still shots and the in-flight shots have become secondary. What I strive for is the "action" shot, i.e. when they're fishing, or fighting. Those shots are few and far between and often occur out of range.

Pete, in all sincerity, my photos are not of the quality that I believe is required for publication consideration, especially to turn a profit. People that travel to Alaska are in a far better position than I to get photos worthy of book publication, as well as the story to go with them. The best that I can hope for is a little recognition from time to time to satisfy the ego. The important thing is that I am satisfied doing what I am doing ........ whatever it is.

I will be starting a new thread soon which will most likely be the last one for this migratory season. I will probably only visit Conowingo one, or two, more times, depending on the weather, as my interest turns more to photographing waterfowl, shorebirds, etc. By the end of December, the visiting Bald Eagles will start their journey back north to meet up with their mate to begin the nesting season. Here on the eastern shore of Maryland, the resident eagles historically begin to lay their eggs by January 20th, with approximately a 35 day incubation period.

Here is an adult Bald Eagle that just landed with a recently caught fish.

Great photo in the branches Linth. These kind of pictures seem harder to take than in the air and you've done a beautiful job here.

Thanks, all ..... I'm sure I will still get a few shots from time to time of other Bald Eagles after the first of the year. There are always a few residents that hang around and nest at the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. Of course, their nesting sites are off-limits to the general public.

duc, at least for me, the "sitting in a tree" shot is much easier. First the Bald Eagle is sitting still, like a pose. I've had them sit behind me for hours at a time. That allows me to take numerous shots at different settings. When you can do that you're bound to get one right. It would be nice to get some shots with a little snow in the background.

I'm not near my photos today so I'll start a new thread later tonight.

Glad you are seeing them Linth. I went to the Mississippi on Saturday to see "how many were there." I saw ZERO. In one month I'm sure that number will be up to 100-200. We've had a mild November, so maybe the ice up north is slower to form.
