Several of you have been kind enough to email me. I am receiving loud and clear. But I haven't yet mastered the art of emailing - specifically I don't seem to have quite the right setting for posting out. I just seem to go round in circles. VERY frustrating. It means that at the moment I can't reply by email. Though I might see and if I can do something on another puter.
I feel incredibly embarassed about this. I'm going to IT classes at my local uni - just sat some exams and am now starting on some more courses.
I've been here since the beginning of February or so and I find that everyone is so kind. I'm single, in my forties, and I took time out from my career to look after my Dad. Originally I'm a biologist and a Chartered Librarian. But I'm looking at the IT side of things now. My home is in Middlesbrough in the north-east of England. It's an industrial area but very close to the Dales and Captain Cook country. I have a corner house. My father planted 80 roses when we moved in here, so I'm mad on roses. Sadly they're dying out now and we have replanting problems with roses here in Britain. My garden is beoming more like a cottage garden at the moment. I'm also very keen on bulbs. I planted 600 or so in the autumn and am planting some more in the green this spring. We have a sort of spring here right now and I have been out in the garden and planted 100 primulas. I tend to grow hardy plants as I don't have a greenhouse.
Well that's all for now.
Thank you Lisa and everyone else.

Diane, your Internet Service Provider (ISP) may not be compatible with your e-mail system. For example, I use Prodigy as my ISP, and it supports Microsoft Outlook Express, but it doesn't support Outlook 5.0 (an upgrade from Express.)
I have access to Outlook 5.0, so I can switch it, load all my messages over into it, and even create a message, but there's no way to send the message once I've created it. (Can you tell I learned this the hard way?) Your problem might be similar to mine (or it could be something else) but it's worth a try. Find the e-mail area on your "home page" (AOL, prodigy, whoever), and see if you can find a list of supported e-mail programs, and perhaps you can try a different e-mail system.....
Good luck to you!
Hello go_vols! Yes I think you might be right! I can certainly type out my message onto Outlook Express but it won't let me send them. It's a slow business learning puter skills. At times I feel I'm all fingers and thumbs.

Does it work if you go to someone else like another.com and send e-mails from there? Or Hotmail or Yahoo or anyone that does an e-mail address on-line rather than from your computer? Another.com have a huge selection of silly addresses you can choose from - I think one was teatime.co.uk, and I was really tempted to have it and call myself Hungry!
Hi Mary! My ISP is Freeserve, though I won't necessarily stay with them for ever. I think I've seen Hotmail when I've been pottering around somewhere on my puter. I'll investigate, probably at the weekend. I've classes again today - computer programming.
Depending on weather conditions I have a lot to do in the garden coming up. There's roses to prune - I did quite a lot in the autumn but they could do with a light finishing off. My paths are looking very green - so a good wash down and put down something like Armillatox or Jeyes Fluid. That's a useful sort of job to do even if my beds aren't ready for anything else. There's a couple of old rose beds which I dug in the autumn, they're now planted with bulbs which are coming up - my local GC says all they need is treatment with weak solution of Armillatox and they'll be ready for replanting with roses again - they were cleared 18 months ago. There's another couple of beds which are ready I'd say for a really good dig and lots of manure treatment - they also had roses in. I'm also expecting deliveries of more bulbs for planting - some in the green (snowdrops, winter aconites) and some for summer flowering. And then of course I've got seeds to get going. I also want to give my lawn a nice feed - got a spreader and stuff from my local GC.
That's quite a list!! It's an old rose garden so it's going to be a few years before all the beds are cleared, thoroughly dug and manured and treated. I'm doing sections of it at a time. Hardy anuuals do a great job filling the gaps at this stage. Am going to start off some biennials this year, maybe try some perennials too (never tried growing them). Will let you know how things get on. It takes patience and a certain amount of imagination.
Hello!! Think I might have improved this a little. I've now set up an account on hotmail. I was able to email a letter to myself tonight. So things are chugging along. I've tried sending out a few other emails as well. It'll be lovely to be in touch with one or two more of you. Thanks and bye for now!
Diane
Hi Northerner, I was wondering if you got my email!:-) Glad to see you are getting set up! Lisa
Hi Lisa! Yes I am getting set up now. I've got an account with hotmail now. And it's working. Posted an email to a friend yesterday evening and got her reply this morning. (Wipes sweat off her brow) I can still receive on my old addy but will use this new one for my personal emails. Will be in touch shortly. Thanks!!
