Karen
ps - here's one with morning glories - love them with bamboo - http://www.hiroshige.org.uk/hiroshige/OtherSeries/FlowerGardenFourSeasons/FlowerGardenFourSeasons.htm (click on #2 from left)
Thak you Karen! I love the pictures!
yes, love the paintings. What kind of flowers are in the first painting? I can tell the MGs, peonies, tiger lilies and clematis, but not sure what the first ones are.
The first one looks like roses to me...
I think they are Japanese Rose. I actually have some now that I looked at them again. A friend of mine in Alabama gave them to me. I just got them last year so don't have blooms on them yet.

Here's another possibility for that first flower - http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/12711/ - Kerria japonica - just guessing - wacha think?
oops - Lili, I didn't click on your suggestion first - looks like we agree. From what I've seen, kerria can take a lot more abuse than roses - more shade; is used at the National Arboretum in Washington, DC as erosion control on a steep hill side (or was when we were last there - they do changes things around there); a good plant for all-around adversity, unlike the kind of rose ya want to dance around with in your teeth
Luvs - congratulations on your win in the DG photo contest with your morning glory pic - I thought it caught the delicacy of that particular blue very nicely

great minds think alike.
Thank you Karen!
Yer welcome, Luvs
Lili, I love to grow my morning glories up bamboo poles and then across garden paths. Wouldn't the kerria make a pretty shrub nearby, with Ipomoea hederifolia lutea for later bloom up above the path in a yellow border?
I have some blendedn in with the azaleas and the crinium, potential for MG on bamboo sticks there. But the other one I have it woven in with the butterfly gingers, can't fit anything else in there...
sounds like a beautiful feast for both the eyes and the nose, Lili
Belated Happy Birthday Ronnie! Hope you had a great day.

Oh thank you Joanne! Indeed it was a great day !
How did I miss such an important event? Well, I am early for next year. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Christi
Oh thank you Christi, that means a lot!!
Well, I don't know you but when I saw luvsgrtdanes, I just knew you are a great person.....I also love those gentle giants - had a beautiful blue, Blue Max...call name Max, who was my buddy for almost 10 years. I don't have any digital pics to send you....he was a big guy - 37" with ears in show crop. He was from int'l winners, but he didn't make it because one testicle did not descend. He cam to me from Houston TX.....enough of my blabbering..........great memories
Thanks for the compliment Jrwbirds! Indeed they are "gentle giants"! I currently am owned by three of them. My Sr. is a Blue female named Sabrina and is still very healthy at 11 1/2 years young. I also have a almost 90 lb.Merle male named Atticus that was a rescue and a very active 20 month old brindle name Harper, who right now is giving me a run for the money!! I don't think I will ever be without at least two!!
Lucky you !! I'd always had GDs and St Bernards - my SBs were huge - one male weighed 218# on his second birthday !! He was a German import - carried his weight very well.
I've had some health issues, so when I lost my last SB, I decided that I'd be better off visiting GDs and SBs of friends and scale down a bit. I now have a Australian Shepherd....an amazing dog and just what I've needed.
pic of P.D. - Porch Dog - my Aussie
P.D. is a beauty!!
My parents raised SBs when I was a kid. I can remember sitting in the pen covered by 13 rambunctious fat puppies.!!
Ronnie I am so kacited for you to get your lil box.. but today I found some lil bags in the trunk of my car! and they had tags that read ( luvsgrtdanes i. purp. mix) I will send them to you monday.. so sorry I had no clue my trunk was full of seed boxes. I guess I better check the other two car trunks..been finding bags of seeds in every nook and cranny of this house.. from the basement to the bedrooms to the top of the refrigerater. I have been looking everywhere for my buffalo ny seeds
( the wild mgs I found up there) if you have a pack in that box marked buffalo seed mix, be aware there might be the wild mg i found up there in it, pics are in my post earlier in september or october. sorry!
