Anyone Interested in a Bonsai Forum?

Palmyra, VA(Zone 7a)

Please post if you are interested, we need to take a count here.

I think suiseki should be included as a part of Bonsai.

Dave -- If we have enough people, is it possible to have the capability of posting pics?

Thanks,
Tim

HAHA Edward Scissorhand.

I've been called the Hacker now and then. You should see the hacking and chopping I did on an azelea...see "How not to wire a tree" in the photo forum. You definitely would not want to see what I did to a Chinese hackberry, a red maple, and...

Tim - I managed to kill the only bonsai I ever had (After it was dead I did spray paint it chrome and keep it for awhile tho).

I could really use some discussion to give me confidence to try again :)

RiseAnn,
Your tree will live forever! LOL

I killed my first juniper when I tried to trim, wire, reduce the roots, and pot the same day. I managed to keep some alive for almost 2 years now.

I would love to learn about that! I bought one and I also killed the poor little thing. What an interesting concept the bonsai is. Would love someone to invent that concept on all my favorite trees!!

Jody,

It's simple and yet not so simple...do NOT water on a fix schedule. Check the soil, water only if it dry in the upper 1/2". I stick either a toothpick or a plant label in the soil and use it as a gauge. Also most trees should be outside.

Most often when you get a bonsai (mallsai) from a mall or store (target, walmart, franks, lowes, homedepot, ect), it is half dead already either the care taker over water or under water.

Bert---- How long have you been practicing the art of bonsai?

i would be interested too
i once got a bonsai for my birthday from old boyfriend.
i left for a rugby tornament and left my bonsai with my (new) boyfriend. is very good with plants and started much of my interest in them. i came back and it was just about dead. hmmm???
my roommated finished it off

that was the end of my bonsaiing for a while.
but lately they have sparked interest again especially since i really got into gardening. i am trying to get an internship with a bonsai grower. and a contract for credit at my school.

it would be wonderful to learn from all of you too.

I would love to learn. I want a Japanese maple, whisteria and azalea. Don't know if I have the patients but I would love to try.

If this becomes a go then you should give us biweekly lessons or something Tim.

Haha I'm a newbie too, I have only been doing bonsai for about 2 years but have wanted to get into it years ago.

Bert is the man!

Do I count??

I have a small tree that I'm trying to force into being a bonsai. It is a locally grown Red Cedar (as in naturalized tree). I dug it up when it was only about 4 or 5 inches tall, it was in a bad place for a tree. They can get very very tall and wide. But I'm going to try and keep it cut back to a small bonsai.

It would be nice to have a special forum for bonsai's.
