Thanksgiving Garden Recipes

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Many years ago when my kids were little and we all started going over to the in laws for T-Day everyone would bring something. Mostly deserts or salad so I went looking for an appetizer recipe that was a little different. Well the mushies were a big hit, but little did I know that they would request them every year. The family has doubled with cousins and grandkids now so many more need to be made. It is not difficult just kind of picky work. I make up for not having the appetizers with a double helping of desert. LOL

Nothing like the smell of apple pie fresh out of the oven.

Cole slaw is made. Pumpkin and sweet potato pies are defrosting.

DD got a list of items needed for the homeless shelter in the town where I was born. She's making 4 pies and i'm making 40 yeast rolls and a pan of Pumpkin - Ginger Bars. Good thing I like to cook. ^_^

I've also got all the plans out to deliver DD & her family a Thanksgiving dinner she's not up to cooking. Her Temp was 102 all night, finally broke at 6 am but she is wiped out with a sick 10 year old and a healthy bouncy 5 year old on vacation. My heart just aches for her....the last time she cried because she was sick was when her appendix ruptured at 14. Last night, she cried, thats why I had such a hard time leaving her. The Mom in me just wanted to wrap my arms around her. I'm thankful she's doing better tonight, if we are very lucky(it's doubtful) the other 2 in the house won't get it. My fingers are crossed.

How am I going to make giblet gravy????...the morons put 2 necks in the cavity and no giblets bag!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Did you check all the cavities, sometimes they're stuffed in other places. I once cooked one with the bag in it.

Morons! LOL.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Hubby did the checking because he was getting it ready to put it in the brine. Checked both ends.
We figured they screwed up since we got 2 necks...unless it was a 2 headed turkey.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

I can't count the times I've gotten messed up packets in my turkeys, and I always get a Butterball. Gotta wonder! But think about the job, really. Probably nothing more exciting then to put double giblets or double necks. Can you imagine working on a factory line all day sticking your hand down inside a turkey to insert giblets. And that's probably the high end position.

Turn your gizzard and cough!

But not onto the turkey, please.

Celeste, you are so inspiring!!! Truly, Maria is as well. Whew. I love this place.

Major cleaning done. Shopping done. We wanted to cook a chicken because MIL requested it, but they didn't have any!! Only extra large turkeys. So... we got a 22 lb. turkey. That was the smallest. Oy. It's DH's fault. Yeah, I can blame it all on him. He he... He didn't want to go shopping until tonight. So, okay. We're getting up at the crack of dawn to get started. This bird's gonna take 5 hours! Would you believe he didn't get a meat thermometer? I hope the stores will be open tomorrow. I want to do this right. Guess I can pick up candles while I'm out... just thinking to myself here. Hmmm... still gotta clean my bedroom. It's a disaster. The basement's pretty ugly too..

Oh, you still here? Sorry!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!!!!!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

jen i only use the neck meat in my "giblet" gravy.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

one of the first turkeys we deep fried... I left all the stuff in there.. pretty funny when we pulled it out and I saw the bag in there

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Harper, just pierce it with a sharp kn ife, until the knife hits the bone, in what looks like the fattest part of the breast, and if the juice runs clear, it will be done.

Happy Thanksgiving all!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Thank you Polly!!! Have a great Thanksgiving all!
