Killing the ISP, things to consider?

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

It is with great joy that I report we will soon be getting rid of
a slow dial-up connection we've used for years on end at great
expense.

Naturally, I've changed my email with Dave's Garden so as not
to miss out on any good stuff. ;-)

Here's to hoping some of you may be able to remind me of things
I may not think of before killing the Internet Service Provider. I've
changed email and such for banks, online accounts and whatnot.
It seems like once upon a time there was such a thing as email
forwarding. Does anyone know if this is still available?

I am so excited. For years I have tried, to no avail, to keep up with
websites and such, but the computer and line has been so slow, I
may as well go back to pen and paper. I'm flying now!

Hubby bought a new computer and wireless access card. We live in
the country, so many of the options available to people like us have not
worked out. We tried several! AT&T wireless air card, thank you! (We
tried Verizon, but it was a no go.)

Thank all of you for any suggestions you may offer.

Karen :-)

don't forget places like work, kids schools, and suprisingly the Vet and your Doctors and pharmacy!

Dover AFB, DE(Zone 7a)

My gmail account is set up to check my old address for mail. (settings/check mail using POP3/add account) Surprisingly, I am still getting mail through that account 4 months after it was "shut down". I didn't think that they would still be recieving anthing for that account as of the night that I turned it off, but it is still working... Maybe you could set something like that up.

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Congratulations WUVIE, broadband is the way to go its a whole new world to dial up. Enjoy, you have suffered long enough!

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

Thanks, all!

Oh, flowers, this is like night and day comparison!
I'm so happy!

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

My BF lives in the country too, and his dial up carrier recently switched everyone over to DSL.
We are waiting to see what the catch is going to be down the line. They said it is free. Guess we will see.

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

better start saving now for that FREE stuff Kassy. If its too good to be true then its not lol

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

I know that all to well. My son has worked for internet companies, and maybe be going back to work at one again.
He even asked what the catch was........LOL

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

Kassy, I live where everything else has been a no-go. Then I tried the AT&T wireless air card
and bought a loooong extension cord for the antenna. It actually works. Though I don't get top
speed, it is WAY faster than dial up.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

I know WUVIE, while I was taking care of my mom, we had to have dial up. They didn't offer DSL that far out of town.
I have DSL, but BF had dial up intil just recently, and I'm still waiting for the catch to it.
I can't see them switching him from dial up to DSL for free.

Did you try the POP3 for forwarding mail like Juneybug suggested?

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

Indeed, and thank you so much, Juneybug, it worked!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! :-)

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Wuvie your zippin now you'll never want to go back! By the way I'm a Karen too. Love your enthusiastic attitude lol

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

I would like to know what it means in different languages

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

I have a chat friend in Scotland that I can ask, and see if he knows what it means over there.
But I haven't chatted with him in a while, and I have a feeling he wouldn't know.......LOL

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Real name is the counter part for the male name Charles ^_^

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Wuvie are ya lost in google land???? Come back we miss ya!

Hulbert, OK(Zone 7a)

Egads, I'm slipping! LOL. Actually, I have found 69,468 things to do
since this new computer has come along. I am SO excited. The downfall
is having to remember all the sites, change passwords, change our phone
number, change blah, blah, blah.

Can't wait until spring! I'm ready for it. This fun conversation has me wanting
to go dig in the dirt right now!

:-)

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

LOL Wuvie just keep a pot of dirt by your computer chair and grab a handful from time to time and that should hold ya til spring. Put your sites you like in your fav's and you can get back to them easier than a blink of an eye.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

OMG, you should see my list of favorites...........it's way longer then my computer screen....LOL

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Hey Kassy!! lost all of my when computer crashed so get to load up more lol Hope you are having a lot of work fun.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

I'm not at work flowers ^_^
I start back to work tomorrow night.
Simba goes in to have his stitches taken out tomorrow. And then I get to come back home and take a nap.
I can't go on the computer at work. We don't have one in the house I work in, and that would be a big no no.

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Glad Simba is healing nicely Kassy, good day for nap its raining here

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Stitches out and he is happy that he can run and jump again and fight with his friend Buddy. But wants to know where the treats are............LOL. We spoiled him just a little bit when he had to be kept in the kennel. ^_^

Vet said we caught it soon enough, as it is a fast growing type, so it must have showed up just before we found it.
He said that the fact that it was small yet helped, and from tests that they did, he said it had not metastasized so that was a good sign. He said to just watch closely for any lumps like I found on him. Told him not a problem, DIL said he will be getting body checks once a week..............LOL
