Cooler weather

Fountain, FL(Zone 8a)

We're having our first cool weather of fall..at least for now. I'm in sweats(below 80 I'm cold LOL) and the dogs are making me crazy!!! Ridgebacks are notorious counter surfers..Payne has checked out the kitchen counters, sink, kitchen table, dinningroom table, and every waste paper basket in the house. I have an old throw on the sofa..great for tug-of-war...I really need to get off the computer and supervise. The sliding glass door is open so the kids can come and go at will..they have been racing in and out all morning..great clouds of dust rising up from their favorite dig spot..so much for dusting. Now they are bringing cypress mulch and magnolia seed "pods" in to play with/chew. The great outdoors isn't good enough for this activity?!?! I have a feeling it's going to be a long fall. Oh well,I love having the windows and doors open, but sure and I hope my canine darlings tucker out soon!! Ginger

Ginger,
It is really chilly here this morning. It is 47 degrees at the moment and I am sitting here in sweats and a flannel shirt. My fingers are cold and I think I am going to have to put on a sweater also or turn on the heat. I really hate to do it this early.
Regards,
Diane

Furnace went on this morning for a quick "get the chill out of the air" hour or so.

I don't know the temperature here, but last night I could NOT get warm! I had to get DH to turn on the heater as I lay shivering under the covers. Usually HE'S the one that's shivering under the covers while I turn on the heater!

I have ridgebacks, too! Well, two of them are 1/4 Rhodie, 1/2 black lab and 1/4 yellow lab or golden retriever ~ the third is half that and half fence-jumper. They're so funny this time of year! Hopping around, doing the "happy wiggle dance" in a serious way.

Speaking of animals, this morning while having coffee we watched Lucky, an orphaned squirrel I raised, bury pecans in an empty hanging basket hanging in a tree right outside the front door. It was so funny watching him dig while the basket was swinging! I guess I can't take that basket down now. ;-) And Omen, our mustang horse, was running and bucking, then stopped to scratch his butt on his favorite tree, my Mom's 30 year old mimosa. TOO funny!

Hey Wingnut...I have 2 RRs..both 100%. Rhodie who was 2 in April is a VERY big girl...last weight check was 116lbs. Payne we adopted through RR rescue...he was 1 in May and weighs 87lbs. He's about 4 inches shorter then Rhodie, but always manages to bowl her over. They are so funny to watch doing the "chest thump"...and they both know they are "SUPPOSED" to sleep with us..3/4 of the bed for them and 1/4 left for me and dh. I'll try to post a picture of them at the photo forum.

Beautiful! Beautiful!!! My three are: Blue Dog (1/4 Rhodie, 3/4 lab), 3 years old, black with brown underneath and two brown spots above his eyebrows ~ weighs about as much as your Rhodie, but probably a little shorter and thicker. Mika Girl (aka Grandma Chub Chub) is Blue's sister, but blond with a dusting of red and 15 or 20 lbs. lighter. Filo is Mika's year-old son and looks like he'll soon be as big as Blue.

I can relate to the bed story ~ mine are such bed hogs! DH and I are getting a king size bed so we can at least have as much room to sleep as we do in a double bed without the dogs! And couch hogs, too! It is nice in winter to cuddle up to a couple of them on the couch, but when all three get up there there's no room left for me! I wish I had a scanner so I could upload a pic of them. I have the cutest one of them lined up by the Christmas tree with felt reindeer horns on!

I just love mine. I've never had a more loving and protective dog as the ones I have now.

Midland, PA

They are gorgeous. Are they good with Children? Do they need lots of room to run? Details please on the breed. My ex took one of my (4 legged) babies with him and I would love to have a big protector and great playmate for my 2 year old and the little one on the way.

Daisy the baby that was taken was a boxer. She was all white and deaf but the best dog I have ever had. My 2 year old actually cut his first few teeth on her leg. Protective, if I put him down on the floor she would curl around him so that he couldn't get too far away from her. She was just wonderful with him.

I've never had a full-blooded Rhodesian Ridgeback, just these lab-rhodie mixes. Mine do love to run around and play (I live on about 200 acres). They are GREAT with kids. My nephews play up and down the creek and the dogs go with them. The nephews have come back more than once telling me stories of how one dog or the other growled at the brush behind them, then chased off an armadillo, racoon, etc. DH and I plan to have children in the coming years and even though I would never leave a small child unattended with a dog, even mine, I think my dogs would protect my children just like they protect me.

It is 48 here now. The windows are still open. I love the cool weather. We leave the windows open and the furnace off longer than most. It has to be pretty cold for me to put the furnace on. In the winter we keep the house around 63.

Pittsburgh, PA(Zone 6a)

Please don't hate me...I love the cold weather. I realize it's antigardening but I'd rather be chilly than hot. "T"
