Fall Bulb Planting in the Midatlantic

Mount Bethel, PA(Zone 6a)

Various members of my family just left (they've been here since before Thanksgiving). I opened Dave's Garden just in time to see Critter's post about the sale so my daughters will be getting lots of the orange daffodils and tulips that they are fond of.

I did my shopping earlier thru the coops and will have all of the alliums that were offered and many of the peonies, daffodils and tulips.

Hopefully, I will stop buying bulbs before the ground freezes solid.

I like the idea of themed gardens. A Disney garden may be a good way to get your kid interested in gardening. I don't have kids, but the neighbor kids are fascinated by my gardening. They like to help me plant. I gave them some seeds, but their parents wouldn't let them plant them. They dumped them in my garden and under the shrubs. Some of the seeds I started didn't come up, so I had some bare places anyway. I made sure that I caught them before they reseeded.

I was thinking a Beetles garden would be fun. I have been noting plants as I see them , but haven't added any, yet. There is a McCartney rose, strawberry fields viola, a few others.

Yes, themed and very colorful gardens will get kids to titoe through the tulips, at least get them off the couch!!

I imagine the trip to Keukenhoff was a great inspiration!! I would love to see that one day.

I have blinded myself like a Clydesdale to keep on track of my plans and not sail over to sales, "just because." It's hard to do but with Christmas on my back, I'm hunkered down while the little voices argue loudly in the background, one telling me to be nice and get the shopping done, and the other saying be naughty--save Santa the trip.

Roses, nice to hear from you! Sally, that's a good policy.
