Will my Strelitzia nicolai survive?

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I think that will help. I bought some large landscaping border bricks at home depot. Made a circle. After it was established I removed the stone/brick border.

Here's an update photo of the ugly growth. Note the paleness of the color and black spots.

You can also see the new healthy growth to the right which is of much better color and hasn't torn.

Yeah, I think it is doing better. Let it ride and see what happens. If it is still pale in color, maybe think about the last time it got any fertilizer?

Do you think that some Calcium/Magnesium would help, Mike? You are in the growing season...and perhaps a good spray of a fungicide on the ground.? Can youdig down and look at the roots?...are they OK, healthy looking?

i just came back from 3 weeks in Tauranga...love it there!!!! I understand the day after I left summer arrived. Drats!!!!

Do you have family in Tauranga? My father is from up that way. His parents lived there for many years. Quite a nice climate actually.

I'm going to have a look at fertilizing my nicolais and see if that makes any difference. One of the plants that rotted completely is still hard at the very base so I live in hope that it might spark back into life.

Yes, adopted family!!! A mother and a sister...

if the roots are good and hard, you should get a pup....
