Mockingbird in early morning sun.
DAILY PICs - VOL. 256
rose, I like the waxwings - pretty.
reddirtretiree - nice capture, BB in flight!
ducbucln - I've been lots of Coots, too.
chris8796 - those Cedar Wax Wings look real nice.
Burd - WOW, you were busy. Those Double-crested Cormorants reminded me of the ones I've been seeing.
gardenpom, cool, two with one shot - White-winged Dove and Collared Dove. How does a regular ole mourning dove compare in size to those two?
MargaretK - I still think that Young Kookaburra is one unique looking character.
I sat for a little while and only saw male and female cardinals late this evening. I had an excess of Safflower seed so I filled many of my feeders with it.. I don't think it is as good an attractant as my other seeds mixes.
Hack
I think the Mourning Dove is just a tad smaller than the White-winged, Hack.

Yep, smaller overall (lighter weight), but actually slightly longer, because of their long tail.

There used to be a time I filled the feeders a couple times a day, but now they don't even need it once a week. I don't know what's going on, but I sure miss my birds!
I did have a flock of Golden-crowned Kinglet's come through yesterday, but they seldom sit still in the open, so are hard to get a decent shot of.

Depends on the amount of natural food available. If there's been a good seed crop on lots of things, you won't get many birds visiting. If it's been a poor seed year, you'll have lots of hungry visitors.

Chris...beautiful flicker shot at the start of the thread!
We know I love all of them everybody!
I have the same thing goin on here tigerlily. I don't have to refill for days sometimes. Maybe because of the realitively nice weather??
It has been so warm here the last couple of days the Blue Birds are out all over....

Resin, I understand all that, but there are very few song birds to be seen ANYWHERE in my area, let alone my own yard, and I'm hearing the same from around the state.
Great shots everyone.....love the flicker shot, Chris. I seldom see females in my yard for some weird reason. I love flickers; they are fun to watch. I have the usual titmice, nuthatches, chickadees & downies. It hasn't been cold enough for the more unusual birds to come to the feeders. Here's one of my year 'round residents:
