Its Ray Flow. Seen here: It is indeed a unstable pattern.

Karen, you're too strong. You're right it is a hybrid between Ipomoea Nil (Africa) and Ipomoea purpurea.
But in reading the studies of Mr. Yoneda, there were not many details.

In 2010 I decide to make some hybrids like that they are very rare . Can not see them anywhere( even on the Net in Japan ).
I think the first hybrid between I. purpurea and Africa I. Nil was the Mount Fuji series and all Fuji (Fuji no Beni .... etc.)

You correct me if I'm wrong.

The second interspecific hybrid has given the series Youjiro Yaguruma, pink, red, blue and brown Chachamaru.
Note those present in this picture are already part of variants.

In 2008, I had the cultivar : Quail - seeds from California (No. 184) .

This year, in a mixture of seed from Japan, there were 2 plants who grow together , first it was Youjiro Yaguruma red and the second with the same leaves but very purple shibori blizzard flower (see photo).
I loved the flowers that were not very fertile so I've crossed with anything that moves in my collection. Now, I have at least 30 hybrids.
It's dynamite!

Beautiful hybrids Dany.

absolutely beautiful dany... the ray flo is wonderful :-)

Dany, My experiment you remember between the Ukigumo and the youjiro was a attempt to do this kind of breeding though I had to work with what I could get ahold of at the time.

I just like you was unsatisfied with just seeing a few words written about them but I wanted to see them myself! You are right the youjiro is descended from a interspecific hybrid and you have discovered the wonderful patterns and colors possible here. They are a endless source of entertainment and fascination all summer.

One of my youjiro maisugata a F2 from a original purchase from Japan produced a double bloom and also a split petaled and I have even seen ray flow in person...but it is mutable and one can`t predict when it will show up. I exitedly tagged and gathered seeds from my "ray flow" and guess what? In the F2 I got dilute shaded Mount Fuji looking blooms and a few solid with lightening in the folds of the corolla (opposite of ray flow !!!) I thought"What happened to ray flow?" Well maybe next year I`ll see another one! They constantly elude me and keep me watching and waiting each year. That is why I like them so much. They are mysteries waiting to be unraveled like a good book you can read all summer. :)

Dany - BEAUTIFUL!!!!

The Youjiro are a fascinating cultivar to cross with. My LYK (Lady Yaguruma Kaleidoscope) is from a Youjiro strain originally. But you are right ... they often tend to be sterile and have to be crossed to carry that gene on. It is always a surprise to see what you might get when growing out F1 or F2 or more generations of this amazing cultivar. Yours turned out fabulous! How large are the blooms? Mine were about 3 1/2 - 4 max. in size.
