Double daydreams Blooming in the basement

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

I got some cuttings in the mail yesterday, and I have mine stuck in a couple inches of water, with a little peroxide...using 2 liter bottles, with the top cut off, because they hold more than a glass. I'll pot them up as soon as they get the nubbies.
Yes, Elizabeth's DH will be so jealous, if she wins and he doesn't..lol..

I'm thinking that I might try to do one more swap, and try to get some more doubles. Been having pretty good luck, swapping perennials for cuttings..

That is great. My flowerbeds are going to be beautiful. My husband took me over there, he is so good about me getting plants, didn't say a word about the money. He loves plants too. So that makes it so much more enjoyable. Mr. George cut them and Robert carred them to the car. It was a wonderful day.

Sounds like a perfect day, Charleen. My husband likes plants too.And doesn't mind if I spend the money on them, when we have it. Money has just been very tight lately. He loves to see me swapping, cause he knows I save a bundle...lol.. But, I have been swapping plants thru the mail for years. I love it, too.
Dee

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Yes, i need to be better at swapping.
I guess I will in time.
Charleen

If anyone would be interested in swapping Brugs , especially the doubles, D-mail me and I will send you a list of what I have. I also have close to one hundred Gingers and about twenty EEs. I am looking for some of the newer doubles and don't mind trading in your favor.

This is Sam and Orange Sunshine.

Welcome Kenboy. I just got me cuttings yesterday. I am asking how do you plant your cuttings?
At the moment I have mine in a gavanized bucket of water and they sure have perked uo since I got them yesterday.
Both of those Brugs are beautiful I have a weakness for the orange ones. i love orange.
Please stay around and we will talk Brugs and just whatever else we can come up with.
Charleen

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Yes, please do stick around...the more the merrier!!
Charleen, I love the e-mail that you sent, about cleaning. I think it was written for me and you...lol
Dee

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

I know that's right. I'd rather work in the dirt outside than the dirt Inside.
Ain't I awful??
Charleen

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

I am the same way, Charleen.I haven't had to go anywhere the last three days, and I have been working in the yard, most of that time. And I'm heading back out there in a few minutes. We aren't gonna have very many nice days, before winter hits.I figure we will have plenty of time for house cleaning, when we're stuck inside.
Dee

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

I know that is right. I have most of my new brugs in potting/cinnamon.
Mr. George said he Planted his"in dirt" So I made several out of a couple, I hope thy ALL root.
Still got some behind me.
Charleen

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

So,I guess they were nice size cuttings, then.I think brugs are pretty tough, except for the small green cuttings. They will do fine for you!
Dee

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Some were small green, but some were really nice.
Got a box and got some in the soil.
Got a pic. I want to smell the blooms, that's why I left them.
Ain't I awful??

Charleen, they look great! I would have left the blooms on too...lol..Next year, I want to be on your cutting swap list, especially for misty pink...pa...lease..
Dee

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

You got it. I believe I got two out of that one.
I still got some I should get about four out of each one.
Just hope they make it.
Charleen

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Wow, you really got your moneys worth then. Maybe next time you go I will have some money. You really got some good ones! I want some more doubles.
Dee

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

It is really different to really look at them , than to see them in pic.
They were very impressive. I loved them all.
Charleen

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

I bet they were beautiful. I can hardly wait til next year when we all have blooms, and are posting lots of pics, just like Elizabeth does now!
it's just amazing how fast they grow and how many blooms they have, isn't it?

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

It sure is. I climbed back into the Brug to take a pic and broke off a pice, it didn't bother him at all. He said he grows some from seed and if they come out white he just throws them away. I'm afraid I would have a jungle. I couldn't throw them away.
Charleen

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

I know, I couldn't throw any away either.I'm still waiting on my seeds to pop. I don't have a lot of patience.Mine are a cross of Jaycayna and Daydreams.Daydreams is the double pink that Elizabeth started this thread with, and Jaycayna is a big 6 pointed pink. I can hardly wait to see what they turn out to look like..
Dee

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

My little fella is still looking good.
I have it in a 2 litr jug bottom. no holes, so I am watching it.
Charleen

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

I wonder how Elizabeth is doing. I can't wait to hear about her adventure.
Dee

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

Charleen you might want to start your Brug cuttings in a smaller pots. When they start rooting and they do not have many roots, the larger pots stay wet longer which sometimes leads to root rot. I start mine out in six-packs until I see roots coming out the bottom and then move them to 4" pots. I make my cutting from 3" to 5". As soon as I see growth of any kind I start spraying with the recipe. Hope this helps.

Oh my gosh...look at all those beauties! They look so healthy
Dee

Ladoga, IN(Zone 6a)

Ken, I did a search on "the recipe", because I remembered reading about it before. Is this the recipe that you use?How often do you spray?

2 cups of water
1, 12 oz can of beer
1/2 cup of household ammonia
1 cup of Epsom salt
3 Tablespoons of Tea Tree oil
1/4 cup of molasses
1/2 liquid seaweed ( Kelp )
1/2 cup of garlic spray
1/2 cup of Humate Tea

Dee

Kerkdriel, Netherlands

I am going to talk with you later. My husband is working on the computer right now. But I wanted to say something to Charleen. I think you can better remove those flowers of your cutting. They take too much energy and have more trouble rooting.

Kenboy welkom here! I am going to reply to you later.

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

That was going to be my Question, Dee.
Jori, I snapped them off . But I so wanted to see them bloom.
Have them in skinny Soda bottles, Ken, you think that is too large?
I have them in pottingsoil/cinnamon powder to fight infection. I have not watered them.
But was thinking about misting them.
What is Humate Tea, where do I get it?
Same with Kelp, where do I get it?
Charleen

Big Sandy, TX(Zone 8a)

That is the recipe and I spray every day. You do not have to have all the ingredients for the recipe to be effective. The most important ones are ammonia, beer ( not light ) , molasses and epsom salt. The recipe works very well on most plants but I find it a must on cuttings. We get humate tea and kelp at a feed store and you can get Tea Tree oil on line. I only use Tea tree oil when I am spraying in the hoop-house, it helps with fungus.

The picture of the cuttings was from Winter before last. I took over 1,200 cuttings and rooted somewhere around 1,000.

Thanks, for all the helpful info, Ken.Wow, you have had great success, with cuttings. Do you have a nursery?
Dee

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Lordy merci , you had a lot there. I got beer, Ammonia epson salts
and molasses. So I'm almost to home base. Huh? Thanks for all the
valuable information. Those plants look great. Do you keep them on
a heated mat or under lights??
Thank you again,
Charleen
May if I have a plant you need, we can trade, later on.

Kerkdriel, Netherlands

1200 cuttings Kenboy! WOW. You can make a living of that! haha.

Kerkdriel, Netherlands

Kenboy (what is your real name?) what kind of EE's do you have. I also have some, but don't know names of them. I joined the aroids forum too but due to too little time I don't get there often. I should so I could learn more of them. Do you have alocasia gigantea thailand strain? I would love to get my hands on one of them or rather seeds. I can't get them here in Europe as far as I know. I tried some people here on DG but they don't reply to me asking unfortunatly. Sometimes I think why not a simple no if they don't want to trade or don't have any at the moment they can trade. I would love to have some for my tropical garden I am making here. I know I have to take it inside for the winter but that counts for most of my plants. haha.

Good afternoon Ladies,
Jori did you get your Box yet, I sure hope so
Charlene
the bracelet brought me good luck, I haven't been on here because we stayed late, then Sunday I had company most of the day, then this morning I had to go to the bank, to transfer some money to pay for my widows, & it's my DH's
birthday, so I had to spend some time with him, now I have some time before dinner, goody goody

Hi it's goot to see you here, that is a large amount of clippings, you must have a huge GH, for all those, you should have a nursery if you don't have one, Congratulations on getting as many as you do to root

Elizabeth

Kerkdriel, Netherlands

Elizabeth, as I wrote here above...I got my box on Saturday! Thank you. The cuttings look great. I have them in soil already.
