Hey Tropicman, ROFLOL! I thought I was the only one that had Halloween Cactus! Yours are SIMPLY GEORGEOUS. We moved from Illinois, where My beauties bloomed right on time. They stayed outside until October when they were brought in and had buds forming. Then we moved to Arkansas and they turned into Halloween Cactus. My neighbor who comes in while we are in FL during the winter to water wondered why I kept these "ugly plants" around, but she came down the other day and became a believer.

This is not quite as old as the white ones, but is coming along nicely. You're quite welcome. Love to share photos with others.

Love your sunroom too!
Say is that a orchid I see?
I have 2 that are sending flower spikes up now,I'm not very good a growing them,I've killed 3 since summer, funny thing they were growing right next to the ones that are sending flower spikes up now.

My newest acquisition. It is probably fortunate for you that I didn't get to the nursery before you! I have been known to go a little wild in nurseries, especially if the price is right.

Yes, that is an orchid. I have killed my share of them too. On our 50th anniversary, I happened to find this beauty in Lowe's with 27 blooms on it, and it called out to me since our anniversary is on the 27th of the month. It has just finished blooming with 3 flowers, however, has three new spikes on it now. I do much better with the Phals than any others. DH rigged up a soaker hose under our back deck and we have a large tub (some kind of farm animal feeder). We moved the orchids out there this summer and lost a couple, however, the ones on the table are "holding hands" as the roots grew into each other's pots. One has spikes but I can't tell if the other one is beginning to spike or just sending out another "hand" to hold its partner. The sunroom is our pride and joy. We opted to have this rather than a stand alone greenhouse, which I originally wanted. In the fall we bring our tender plants in and in the spring and summer, we use it as our dining room. In this photo you can see the corner of one of the tubs of epi cuttings we brought back from a trip to FL in September. Just can't get enough of those epis!

I have a couple Dend. and Phals and cattelyas and one cymbidium left, had a couple dozen last year, there just slowly dying!
I have several Epies of all sorts and colors, but getting them to bloom is like getting the orchids to rebloom.
This winter I have them hanging in the garage,I've been told they need a cool dry winter, and more shade than during the summer to get them to bloom in the spring,so no greenhouse for them this winter.
I have them in 14 inch coco fiber hanging baskets, there are so huge I can hardly lift them now.

I have my grandmother's epi oxy down in FL and it had two blooms on it this summer which we saw open, plus another bud that was small when we left. Mine in AR are the FL offspring which had four flushes this summer. This thrilled me no end as some people have had these plants for 30 years with no blooms. I feed them banana peels, which they must like, as they are growing and blooming. I will have to defer judgment on how the new epi cuttings do. Most of them bloom in the daytime, and some stay open for more than one day, which helps, as I kept missing openings at night. The new ones are red and yellows so if I am lucky, in several years we might see some blooms, however, I am too old to wait 30 years, but hope springs eternal with gardeners.

My dutchmans hasn't bloomed in a couple years now,I miss those big white fragrant blooms at night time,it used to bloom several times a year, until I planted it in the ground in the greenhouse.
I have some I got from a lady who brought them over from Vietnam after the war, that haven't bloomed for me,but I sent some cuttings to Clare In California and they bloomed for her within the first year of rooting, several colors red, yellow, purple and pink, your welcome to some cuttings this spring if you'd like to try your hand at them .
Have you been to the the Exotic rainforest in Rodgers Arkansas.

Would love some cuttings in the spring. Thanks for the info on the Exotic rainforest. Didn't know about it before, but looks like DH and I will have to take a trip to Siloam Springs to check it out. Try giving your epi some bananas. I just slice up the peelings and spread them around the plants in the pot. This was last summer before we got smart and tied the plant to a trellis. It looks a lot better now.

Your welcome

I had a Schlumbergia bloom right around mid-October.

I just got a copy of a book "Christmas Cacti: The Genus and its Hybrids", it is a wonderful exposure of the confusion over this genus and pictures of many of the named hybrids. I recommend it to all who are interested.
