Decapoda, family Paguridae

Oakland, MD

Was going to add the long-clawed hermit crab to the crab files, but then realized there isn't a family for them =X.
I don't know how you guys do these things, since they aren't really bugs to begin with...

To introduce a new family to BugFiles, the first entry in the family must be created by Admin. You didn't give a lot of information, but I think the crab you wanted is Pagurus longicarpus and I have created an entry for it here: http://davesgarden.com/guides/bf/go/5749/
If you come on another missing family, please provide the Common Name, Scientific name and Family to make it easier for us to introduce the family.
Let us know when you have added your images of this crab and I will select one to illustrate the family in the index,

Sorry about that, and yes that's the one!
Will upload pictures momentarily!!!

EDIT:
It's uploaded =)
I only had one old picture of a small specimen.
Next time I go to the beach I'll be sure to take more/better pictures, and hopefully get all three chesapeake bay species!!!

I might even have to take a net and see what other crab species I can find! ;)

Don't go too far into the sea looking for specimens. I think Bugfiles really ends at the tide line. Most of the crustaceans in BugFiles are freshwater species and a few marine species that can be seen at times out of the sea, eg Land Crabs and Land Hermit Crabs,

Thanks!
I's something I want to do anyway.
I think I'll take a large fish bowl with me, and photograph whatever I can pull up =p.
I do hope to see more "files" in the future though ;)
