Can anyone help ID this bug which has similarities to a cricket in appearance but I have not witnessed it jump. It has a hard thorax and I've noticed a few of them in the past week in the area around my house in Massachusetts. Apologies for the slightly fuzzy picture but even any idea as a direction for what type of insect this is would be helpful.

It is difficult to make out any distinguishing features because of the aspect angle of the photograph. It appears to be a true bug (Hemiptera/Heteroptera); one possibility is western conifer seed bug, Leptoglossus occidentalis - see http://tinyurl.com/ylaptek for an image.
Agreed. That is it.
