My Bed of Tulips II

Mackinaw, IL(Zone 5a)

I might have to try it on the tulips in my new bed. I love how the color combination came out! I had a red bud blooming, and Husker's Red penstemon sending up burgundy foliage, to set off my Queen of Night Tulips and Cloud Nine tulips. There were also a few daffodils still hanging around, too, to add some white to the mix. The bed still looks a little bare, but I'm trying not to pack it full right from the start, until I figure out what will bloom when. :) Ignore the weeds and the grass that needs to be mowed, please. There will be two clematis on the trellis blooming later--Jackmanii and. . .drat, can't find the name of the double pink and white one.

Pretty color combinations Patti. The red bud trees are so nice this year.

One last shot of the bed of 'Maureen' tulips I salvaged from last year. That variety is certainly long-lasting! The photo was taken 4/27 (Tuesday) - two weeks after they first opened.

Leawood, they look just lovely! They really have held on a long time! I think the gusty wind today will finish off all my tulips. I wonder if yours can stand up to the wind better planted en masse like that?

I've so enjoyed watching the progress on your garden! Thanks for sharing it with us!

And your brickwork and columns are gorgeous. What a setting!

I have a Muareen that got entangled in a viburnum trilobum about five years ago. I can't dig it up. I can't fertilize it. It gets too much water. It's smaller, but it blooms every year. Can you imagine how glorious yours will look in 2, 3, 4 years? They won't have lost anything!

Have you decided what to do next? I know you want something different. Sounds wonderful.

OK - season 3 is starting. My boxwood took a major hit over the winter. Here's how things looked 4-5-11, with the tulips starting to grow.

It looks great even with the winter damage on the boxwoods. I am sure you can't wait to see them all bloom.
