Here is a link to a picture of a bumble bee that looks very much like yours.

Aren't bumble bees so cool? :D They've scared me a time or two though. *laughs at myself*

I learned a few cool facts while searching out this one....a variety of behavioral traits and who stings and who doesn't...

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

OH! I'd like to see those facts. :) I'm easily excitable when I see anything with a stinger. It would be good to know which ones are aggressive, which ones aren't, etc.

Especially wasps... we had one that was hiding out in our over hang porch at our apartment. There's a small hole in it and I'd freeze up every time I heard "BUZZZZZZZZZ"

Did you check out the link above? There are other areas and links identifying other bees on there. Neat info.

Thanks a lot for the info!! That is helpful!

You are welcome Siichan. Glad it helped.

Leysha, that buzz you hear is a carpenter bee making a nest in your overhang....they are not really something you want around as they bore into wood and create damage.

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

I'm pretty sure its a wasp... I only heard the noise as it was zooming by me.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Oops, my bad. I thought you heard it buzzing in the overhang. Duh.....grin

It's cool moon. :)
