Found in my planter spinning quite a web. Brown with some orange/yellow markings. Legs alternate colors that look brown and yellowish. Southwest Lower Michigan on warm day of October. Brown Widow was my first guess. Anyone?
What kind of Spider is this??
This is a harmless orb weaving spider (family Araneidae); likely in the genus Araneus - see http://tinyurl.com/yz92998 for an example. Spiders in this genus can be extremely variable in color pattern, but none look anything like a brown widow.
Thank you suunto. I am not a big fan of any spider and always think the worse. Thank you for easing my mind!
