This more likely is an Achemon sphinx, Eumorpha achemon; caterpillars of this species can be quite variable in color pattern - see http://tinyurl.com/yz5mkca for an example.

After looking at a lot of images I am leaning towards the eumorpha achemon sphinx because I found it near my virginia creeper. I few years ago I found one similar only even larger that was a pinkish color and it was on the virginia creeper.
