Guess it will be frost on the pumpkins.
Our first one!!!
Weird - we don't have one.
The frost has come and gone, and the snow. So, if winter is coming so early, that means that Spring will happen closer to February 22, right??
One can only hope.
December 21 is the first day of spring. Only 62 more sleeps ^_^ I will be in AZ and NM this year so will be dancing in shorts and whacking golfballs to celebrate.
NICE!
I like that kind of thinking.Spring in Feb.
Not quite the same as the spring dance in snow while praying for bulbous things, nuttyD!
No worries Victor. I plan to do the 'Emergence of the Spring Bulbous Things' dance with my dear friend roybird in Sante Fe. We might also krump ^_^ I hope to learn some new dances about cacti too. I think they will be slow dances though.
Not the same. Like Christmas in the tropics. Say hi to Penny!
I agree Victor. Penny and I will raise a refreshing beverage in your honour ;)
Thanks. Cactus colada?
Mojitos!!!! WHOO HOO!
Dahlia, you wild thing!!! Enjoy!!
Louise
PS, Victor....I like "NuttyD" for our dear Dahlia........it fits, so I may wish to use that from time to time in my posts. Do I have your permission?
LOL
and ps, NuttyD, none of my little dahlias that I planted last year in Fla. seem to have made it. sniff. I brought some of this one down with me...so we'll see. The weeds are so thick out there, it's not clear whether some may be still hiding.
Absolutely - I prefer it too. Has a hip-hop ring to it.
I LIKE NuttyD athough my hiphopping looks more bunnyish than urban (snort). Sorry about your dahlias DonnieB (wiping a tear).
Sorry about the weeds.Louise, guess you'll be busy gardening instead of walking on sunny beaches
I probably lost 10 pounds of sweat out there this morning in the sun. Whew, is it hot and humid here. Hank and I were through for the day by 10:30 this morning. We're making slow progress! The sandy soil does make it easier to pull the weeds though.
Must be heaven in sand.
Is it easy weeding in NH?
Not bad, Jo Ann, but nothing like down here! The soil is like fine sand here. In NH, it is best to weed after it has rained. Then, if you pull the weeds out sideways (never straight out), they come out pretty well instead of breaking off. Down here, it's what might be IN the weeds that is the challenge. These poison toads that are new on the scene this year are very scary. My Australian friends tell me that these things are the only things that kill the crocodiles! I worry about all the outdoor pets here. Apparently, these things were brought in by the Sugar companies in Clewiston to kill a certain beetle; then they began to move out of the area, and they have just now appeared here in our neighborhood. They are large and their poison is deadly. I'm keeping my eyes open after one was found in the neighbors' pool cage a couple weeks ago.
Canetoads are a mennace in Austrailia. And lets not forget about breeding time and migration
Please stay safe DonnieB! Poison toads EEK! Geesh we don't have ANY toads and I've been wishing for them. I will now rethink.
News item the other night was about the exotic animal escapes and dumps in Florida, that feed on domestic pets and bite children.
I'm thinking Boa Constricters and Iguanas to mention a few
Jo Ann - let's not forget about those pythons that can eat a naval destroyer! Really, I hate that it's not illegal for people to buy wild creatures for pets. They get tired of them and release them, and now we have REAL problems down here. I used to want a fence for our backyard, but not now. Our next dog will be walked on a leash like Molly was. Who knows what's lurking out there at bedtime or early in the morning. Yikes, it gives me the creeps! So far, our 2-mile-wide River hasn't been the avenue of these huge snakes into our neighborhood, but it is probably just a matter of time. I used to canoe all over these waters in my childhood, but I'm not comfortable doing that now. Too bad, but then, I've become a chicken in my "mature years". I was a real daredevil in my youth, so I guess it balances out.
CNN News had the article about exotic pet releases.
Little girl had her foot opened up by an iguana.
I doubt these animals stalk anyone but if the opertunity presents itself they will have a kid- bather or family pet for a meal.
Guess the dear problem here pales by comparison
Our current hideous danger is the cane toad that kills dogs and cats by excreting a deadly substance that covers their skin and is licked by the curious pets. Ugh. Every time I take these babies out at night, I dread coming across one in the grass that I can't see in the dark. Do I sound like a paranoid new mother, or what????
That's not good. I wear bare feets. I would be a goner.
Some humans have become terribly ill from them as well. They're newly arrived in our neighborhood. One very big one showed up in our neighbor's pool cage the week before we arrived. Luckily, our next-door-neighbor is a vet and she recognized what it was and pickled it in vodka.
yummy!
About all vodka is good for.
LOL!
How bad is this? A couple hours ago I took Bailey out and she walked down the driveway near the road. She walked right over a baby black snake that just slithered out from beneath her. I swept her up in a hurry and then sent Hank out to "do something". He couldn't find the baby snake. That 's a first for me! I won't be the one taking the dogs out before bedtime tonight. Major Chicken here! Poor Hank....he gets all the dirty work chores. LOL
I would have done the same!
Hee hee!
I'd of been back in Maine in less than 48 hours. ^_^ Super-duper chicken here.
What a bunch of wimps!!
Yes sir, snake whimp and proud of it!! lol
My older guy is terrified of them. Not sure why.
It will only be a matter of time before Walt Disney creates a friendly Mamba for kids to buy and love..
There was a snake in Jungle Book.
Disney left out the part where the friendly snake constricts its prey.
I have a campaign about not telling kids that ALLcreatures are friendly.
