CLOSED: Spider Identification Needed

I found this huge spider in the garage. I have small children and dogs so I am concerned and need to know what it is. Not only that but it looks like it may have an egg sack attached to it. Based on the wikipedia description for brown recluses I dont think it is because it has 4 eyes (2 sets) and apparently the brown recluse is one of the few spiders that has 3 sets of eyes. Any helpful info that you can offer is greatly appreciated.

More information: The spider was found on the floor of the garage in a suburban neighborhood in Roseville, Ca.

This is a female wolf spider (family Lycosidae) with her egg sac. When the young hatch, they will stay with their mother for a few days, riding on her back, until they leave to seek their own fortunes - see http://tinyurl.com/ybkqo77 for an image. Although large specimens can deliver a painful bite if mishandled, they are not dangerous to humans or pets.

YIKES!!!Suunto, the link that you sent us to was sure creepy. She was carrying all her babies on her back. I'm sorry, I just can't love a spider. And Suunto, I am so impressed with your knowledge of spiders and such. Sure is nice to have you around to help us identify these critters. Laverne

I hope that you will consider letting her and her babies live. They are great hunters of insects...and very beneficial in our gardens.

@ceejaytown: Amen to that! I have a number of wolf spider "neighbors" in my yard and I'm always happy to see them! They eat all kinds of garden and house pests, including (I think) cockroaches!

Thanks for your help with this one. It's good to know she's not poisonous. I did not kill the spider for those who were wondering. I really appreciate your expertise on this.
