This is the tiniest fly I've ever seen - it was only about 1/4" - and it was a beautiful bright copper color with black lines on the abdomen. I searched the web, and the snipe fly was the only one I could find that came close to the fly I photographed. Any help in the identification would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
CLOSED: CLOSED: Could this be a snipe fly????????????
I suspect that this fly is in the family Dolichopodidae, long-legged flies - see http://tinyurl.com/yh2qrfg for an example. They generally are predatory on other small arthropods.
That's it exactly. Thank you for the correct id.
