After a miserable, hideous, horrible, summer of packing, selling two houses, being transfered twice between 3 different states, being homless and husbandless for 2 months with one child in Canada and the other with me having a breakdown and our 2 dogs halfway accross the country and watching my son sob his heart out as he dumped his precious fish in a pond cause I had no way to keep them alive with all the traveling, we are finally back together and G-d willing will settle on our new house in two weeks. At one point I was doing a 2-4 hour drive one way to get my daughter (3rd grade) back and forth to school. The poor soul got thrown into a brand new school with kids she didn't know after an 11 hour drive the night before and just totally lost it. I actually registered her over the phone while we were on the road. To make matters worse, she'd lost her hearing aides while we were travelling. Thank you G-d for the mom's that heard about our situation and made sure she had uniforms waiting for her when we got to school. Thank G-d for the amazing teacher who immediately jumped in, got her to a safe place and just listened and arranged to have a councilor waiting for her the next morning to help her adjust. She even got permission for her to bring her stuffed bear to school with her to keep in her locker. I'll tell you there is nothing like a good teacher!
Our new house has a huge yard front and back with woods along the back border. It only has some defeated looking old shrubs that look like they were planted not long after the house was built and a large silver maple in the front yard. There was a half hearted attempt to landscape the front yard and a line of a few pitiful looking hostas. Bottom line, I have a blank slate (ooo doesn't that sound just too too much for words!?) I'm envisioning all sorts of martagon and asiatics along with hostas and hellebores, trilliums, aseriums and other goodies towards the back. I think I'd like my orientals around the deck, its a double deck surrounding the breakfast room and familyroom with three of the walls opening up completely on to it. There are lots of skylights so I'll even be able to have house plants again!
I'm really going to be picking brains here I can tell you. I don't plan on doing anything this winter or I don't think even in the spring just clearing out the shrubs and undergrowth in the woods. I'll wait til the fall to send in a huge buggy order and pray for a few good co-ops since I was only able to bring one plant with me. Its so cool to be back on Daves again.
Missed you guys and love you all

Oh by the way we're back in Maryland, zone 7.
I've got a brand new garden!!!!
Glad you're back on-line! Sorry you were so stressed all summer. I hope things are well with you and your family now. How did all your plants do with the many moves?
Such a trial you're been through! Very happy to hear that you'll be settled soon and can relax, enjoy the winter holidays and dream of filling your blank slate. Remember to take before and after pics!
So good to have you back. It sounds like you have had quite the journey over the summer. Settling in to a new garden slate can be so much fun. Hope you enjoy the new spot, settle in and start dreaming. It will make the transition easier too. Good to hear the kids have good teachers too. It makes all of the difference!
