I was camping in southern New Mexico this week and found this BIG spider on the door of my trailer. It was agressive and came toward my flashligh. It was as large as the palm of my hand. I think it is some kind of wolf spider. Has anyone seen this before?
This is a giant crab spider (family Sparassidae) in the genus Olios - see http://tinyurl.com/ygb63gj for an example. Also known as huntsman spiders, they are active hunters like wolf spiders, and often are found indoors. They can give a painful bite if handled carelessly, but are not dangerous to humans.
