What's a good support for runner beans?
Can you imagine the root system that bamboo has? Looks like it could be a good ad for a plant fertilizer...
I guess that would fall under "cluming bamboo"? Being from far east Texas you can also use them as spears to keep rogue ATF agents off your property.
Hey! Surely east TX doesn't have that bad a rep? But it might look nice surrounding my moat which is crawling with alligators and cottonmouths. Hmmmmmm
Thats funny, bad rep!?!?! As someone who looked into what actually happened, I meant it 100% the opposite, but I know I am in the minority. However, thats another thread in another place, so i'm sorry I brought it up! Anyhow I can appreciate, I can fear, and I have respect for your moat, I can deal with your gaters and bamboo, but your cottonmouth make me tremble in my boots... So I will stay out here with the rest of the wackos and try to grow the tallest, most pervasive bamboo... If I am successful I will send pics your way!
Large bamboo might actually make an excellent trebuchet'. Then you could "fling" yourself to east TX or at least across my moat. 8 )
Shoot, with bamboo that big, I just make it all the way to the Louisiana casino boats!
I LOVE the cattle panel set up! I have got to do that this year.. Thank you for posting that!
um, did I hear my name mentioned here? Something about a "takeover?"
No wonder they use that bamboo to build houses. I bet it grows a lot faster than Southern pine.
ZZ, be prepared for sticker shock. The cattle panels have sure gone up in price. I wanted to buy 10 this year, but am now rethinking my plans.
Some flooring is made out of bamboo, too.
I recently brought some bamboo from my yard into the office at the request of a co-worker. Several others wanted to know where they could get some "starts" so they could grow it, too.
I gave them all the same advice: YOU DON'T WANT TO GROW BAMBOO - EVER!
I inherited what I have. It comes up twenty feet away from the mother plant, grows through anything, and has horrendous roots.
It's great for using as stakes to hold up the boards for our raised beds. Runner beans, snow peas and cucumbers grow up it very easily.
I got 2 Cattle panels.. They were on sale for $19. each.. so yeah, the beans are expensive this year! But I love the idea and the look. Can't wait till they are covered!
I wish I had like 40 of em, they are so handy!
