i think that's one of the metallic wood borers
It wasn't really metallic. It wasn't shiny
i don't know the species well enough to say but it is a wood boring beetle. here's one, not yours either but same family: http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://media-2.web.britannica.com/eb-media/21/124721-004-62B08D7C.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic-art/125235/118678/Metallic-wood-boring-beetle&usg=__obTaZQcdi2QQAdbez5_ZHNf8RCE=&h=450&w=502&sz=45&hl=en&start=5&tbnid=easRI70HkcdFSM:&tbnh=117&tbnw=130&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dwood%2Bboring%2Bbeetle%26gbv%3D2%26hl%3Den
we have them here too. interesting, aren't they?
The family is almost certainly Buprestidae, sometimes called Jewel Beetles, but I can't get any closer than that.
