"Curly Top"
Hibiscus For Today
Wilfred they are both soooooooooo beautiful! I love them. "Curly Top" the color is so vibrant, The other one is just stunning. With all the ash we have been getting, all my blooms on everything have fallen off. I needed to see pretty. Thank You for sharing.
Tina
PS thanks for the d-mail.
Very nice!
WQP that second one looks like one of the Dragons.
Nice blooms Wilfred. Aunt Anne is correct. The second one's gotta be the very famous "Black Dragon".
Hey Wilfred, you just made my day with your very, very pretty blooms. Another cold, rainy day here. Working on getting the GH ready for winter. My cuttings from yesterday look good. When is our next "faze of the moon" day? You've got me hooked on this stuff now. Did notice my White Wings has kept its bloom for several days in this damp cool weather & is much larger. Thanks for sharing your beautiful blooms with us.
Judy
Judy, did you think 2 months ago we'd be griping because of too much rain? lol
Nope! And, I try not to complain but.....enough already. For the time being anyway. :-)
Judy
Seeing pictures this beautiful make me so eager for next summer when I can have a yard full of hibs blooming. I can only hope they're half as beautiful as the ones I see folks post on here.
That's how it seems to work with the rain. It's always feast or famine. We had severe droughts here the past two winters and on both occasions the droughts were erased within a one week period of heavy rains. I wouldn't be surprised if we're heading toward another drought this winter. It's now been 2 weeks with no rain and no rain coming in the next week.
Wish I could share with you, Jon. Saw a patch of blue sky & started to take my camera outside to take a picture! :-) But, the Hibs are enjoying the cooler weather. Can't have it all.
Judy
Wish I could send you some rain, Jon. Be glad to share with you. :-) But, I can see a patch of blue sky for the first time in ages.
Judy
Hi to all and to all thank you for complements,
Anytime Tina, clad I could help you with your cutting, hope the ones I sent you get there soon.
AuntAnne and Jon, thanks for telling me the name of the second hib, could you believe I got it by chance this summer at the flower festival, didn't have a name or flower on it when the seller offered it to me when I ask him if he had any other one different from the ones I brought from him, only told me it was different from the others and it was the last one but nobody wanted it because it had one leaf with white vein patches, every one taught the plant was sick so I bought it.
PurePlants, thanks for posting your Black dragon a week earlier, gorgeous hib I could compare mien with and it sure looks like the same hib.
Hey Judy, the closes is Friday Nov. 6,2009 but the actual quarter moon faze is Monday Nov. 9, 2009, what that miens you'll have from Nov. 6, 2009 to Nov. 9, 2009 to plant cutting, four days in a roll for it. here's a photo of last month cutting planted most looking good till now. Hope the people that need rain get it soon and those who need a break from it soon also.
jlj072174, I'll bet you'll get some real gorgeous beauties nest year, no doubt about that, BTW, can you give us your name, so many number in the user ID, have to go back several times to check if I've written it right, besides, it makes it more friendly when writing to you.
Again to all thanks, and now some more blooms from today.
These are all so gorgeous!!! I agree that the dark one does look like a black dragon. I love that C'est Bon...
This one I bought on eBay, it was suppose to be a beautiful double blue hib, after waiting a year and a half, this is what came out. bod er me in the beginning, but after seeing how beautiful it was I thanked the lady for taking me for a fool with her scam on eBay, never bought from her again. since I didn't know the name and it was supposed to be blue, I name the hib "Blue" to remember were I got it from and from whom.
Thanks PurePlants, hope you enjoy the rest.
Wilfred
Wilfred, my apologies. My name is Jennifer. The username is a combo of my initials and my birthday so I can remember it. :-)
Hey Wilfred, did this "faze" end on Fri. the 9th or start then? More of that wonderful, lovely
Rainy weather today!!!!??? Should have taken that pix when I saw the blue sky! Your cuttings look very good. I'm going to be more organized for the next faze. What size are your pots? Your Blue & C'est Bon should have pretty kids. I think Blue is gorgeous but I love pink. Thanks for adding color to this gray day.
Judy
Jennifer, beautiful name, glad to know it, feels more friendly now when I write to you, now if we can get PurePlants to tell us his or her name it would be wonderful.
Hey Judy, one usually have about three day but Fridays are the best day of the three, the closer it get to the new moon, the less chase you'll get for the cutting to set roots according to the elders. I use 5" pot for one reason, bigger than that stays wet to long and smaller dries to fast. BTW, thank for telling me your favorite color Judy, now when one of my seedling finally bloom that's pink I can name it after you. Have one new seedling that should bloom this week but I think is going to be yellow. I also have two new seedling that look like "Painted Lady" but one is a little lighter and one is a little darker, both have not been name as of yet, want to be sure colors stay true to them.
Seems like some of your rain came over here today, been raining since last night.

Hey Wilfred, you didn't get my rain cause it is supposed to start again in about an hour.
Wilfred, the cuttings I made for you look really good. Have y'all heard that earthworms are not good for your Hibiscus? Read about it on IHS & wouldn't you know I had just put one in every pot that I had just repotted a couple of weeks before I read that. They are just going to have to stay til next spring as I didn't think disturbing them again so soon was good for them. What did we do before the internet?
Judy
Interesting about the earthworms, Judy. What's the issue with them?
Dee, I sent you a couple of things in an email about earthworms. There was another from a grower in Europe who used to put 3 in each pot they shipped. But will not do it now. I can't begin to count the times I have deliberately put an earthworm in a flower pot. I keep some kind of saucer under my plants when they are on the ground because I fight a constant battle with grubs & don't want them in my flowers. For all but the largest pots I have found aluminum pie tins are perfect to put under pots. And, you can find them at yard sales or thrift stores & are only $1.00 at the Dollar Tree. Last longer than the plastic saucers.
Judy
Ok this is all news to me...
Judy, why do/did you intentionally put earthworms in your pots?
I read the info you sent me and it referred to
1) earthworms possibly causing root rot in grafted hibiscus so there was advice against putting them in pots
and
2) earthworms not surviving in pots with a lot of perlite because the worms get cut up by the sharp edges of the perlite.
but I don't understand why people were putting the earthworms in pots in the first place.
edited for clarity
