Great PLANT SALE this Saturday AM OCT 10th

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

The Ruth Bancroft Garden in Walnut Creek is having their fall sale tomorrow. 9 to 11 for members then open to the public at 11 am. You can become a member at the door.

I love this garden. It is so unusual. Lots of huge cactus and so many cool succulents. Always such fun to wander thru it. Ruth Bancroft, a very serious gardener, created this lovely place. It has been open to the public since the early 1990s.

I got a sneak preview of the sale plants. Tons of starter plants and lots of bigger plants and even BIG plants too. Unusual finds too. I love these sales. You can find things not available elsewhere. Great prices too.

Water being so tight, I know I lot of people are putting in cactus and succulent gardens.

I'm surprised he doesn't know you well enough by now to know that's what you meant! LOL

Oh, that's good....."plant event".....I'll remember that one.

LOL Liz. You would think he would know! Though perhaps he prefers to keep his own magical thinking that I had no intention of going plant shopping. Poor guy!

Well I left my house soon after 8 am and just got back now. I am so beat. I am getting too old for a whole day on the plant go! Th esale was just great and I went on a cdocent tour. Started a second tour but it got too hot for me as I was dreessed for the cold morning so off I went to a plant friend who lives in Walnut Creek. She had some fancy bomarea seeds from the Strybing for me. Her yard is worse than mine so I love looking at all that plant clutter. Made me feel more sane. LOL She must have well over 1000 clivia. Talk about a brain in constant stutter.

Then I went Orchards in Layfayette and WOW you would never know the nurseries are hurting. All decked out for Halloween and they even had a band and singing going one. So much fun. Plus in great secrecy they are doing their Christmas trees. It looks like it will be fancy again, last year was kind of a let down there.

Then on to Longs where a customer told me and everyone else that CVS was closing the plant department and then CVS was moving to where the Safeway was and Safeway was taking over the Long's spot. I later saw the boss of the plant department and she said they still do not know if they will survive or not. So lets hope! They had a half price sale on pots again so of course I had to get lots just in case they do close. LOL

Well Tom is yelling for me to go out to dinner.

Such a beautiful selection, Kell---and since many would turn to mush here within a few weeks, I'm glad I resisted. Thanks for taking great pix so I knew what I was missing!! I was definitely tempted....however, I've managed to get everything in the ground that I've splurged on----oh, except for all the bulbs I bought or ordered. RATS----almost forgot about those.

do you know what kind of tree that is in your first pic..with the pink flowers.
ITS SO PRETTY!!!! lol

Dear me, Janet. All I bought at the sale is sitting in the box I used to transport them. I am in such trouble. You are so good to get things planted and done with.

Cody, it is a Chorisia speciosa. Such pretty flowers! Whenever I am lucky enough to see one in flower, I just stop and stare.

I'm better than I used to be, but I still have a place near the house with stuff "waiting to be planted", Kell---that's a gorgeous photo!!
