caterpillar attracted to my morning glory

I have an unusual caterpillar making itself at home on my Morning glory vine.. it is a large black one & there is a little bit of blue spots on it's sides. I have tried looking this up but with no success & I don't have a digital camera to take an instant picture of this. Does anyone know of any caterpillars attracted to Morning glory's?

My guess is that it is some kind of moth. Your description doesn't sound familiar to me though. Only way to find out ... raise and release it! :-) That's what I do! :-)
