RCN, That Fireworks is a beauty. So many lovelies. The only ones I've lost got too much water. Next year, They will be under the cover of the trees. I need to get trays to put under them for water to create humidity inside for the winter. Do you mist yours in the winter? My fireplace is in that room.
Begonias Anonymous - Attention Addicts and Enablers
Good grief. And none of them are hardy for you? Do you move any to the greenhouse or hoop houses? I'm even afraid to look and see if you sell Begonias.
Oh, I was so excited. I thought that you had a Betty boop Begonia, but yours looks a little different. Yes, shoot me up, PLEASE!!
I'm sure these lovelies are gone but not forgotten. Does Baker's Acres sell anything but Begonias?
What a shame, they are so wonderful.
That round leafed one is so cute. The spotted one looks a lot like my Marmaduke.
Deb, you are truly Hardcore. I find these plants to be fascinating. They are so interesting and always beautiful. One of a vast diverse group of plants that actually look better when they're not in bloom. A shady gardener's delight
Just call me an addict :) Found a couple more - Bonfire from last year. It didn't look as nice this summer but I didn't keep up my fertilizing routine like I usually do. Regardless it's still alive, has been cut back to bring inside for the winter and with a bump up to a larger pot for next year will hopefully look just as spectacular - also very easy to root from cuttings :)
You are making me sooooooo happy. To quote Mr. Brown, I feel Gooood. How old is your Grandis? I bought two Begonia Grandis Evansiana this summer. I can't quite tell them apart from the regular ones.
I like that one in the middle.
LOL, glad it's making you happy - it's making me sad to think how many we've lost! That patch of Begonia grandis has probably been in the gardens for about 7 years but they've popped up here and there over the years. I've used this patch to grab babies each spring and planted them in other areas. We also have a white one which was planted at the same time as the pink but it still hasn't produced enough babies to get it started elsewhere.
The one on the left is the Begonia I tried to sell - I think next year I'm just going to bump it into a larger pot because it's definitely busting out of the one it's in!
I can't imagine how long it takes you to water all of them.
Well...I guess that's why I lost so many of them! Last winter it took me almost an hour and half to get everything watered "properly". We still have a few more pots to bring inside in the next few weeks but I timed myself last week and it only took a half hour to water :)
nice stuff!!... some of these you posted I never saw before
RCN, What disappointed you about Metallic Mist?
Hcmcdole, That is just beyond description. Lovely, lovely. Are any of them hardy in Ga?
I'll take a photo and then let you decide. The staff at Plant Delights warned me, it's fussy about being grown in a container but after seeing the photos I HAD to have it! I can't find the photo I thought I saved but it was of Dan Heims holding a huge specimen. I don't think mine is ever going to look like that :(
RCN, Last year I planted 2 Metallic Mist in moist shade and 2 in dry shade. The dry shade ones died within 10 days, The moist shade ones died a slow lingering death about 2 month's worth.
