Begonias Anonymous - Attention Addicts and Enablers

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

RCN, That Fireworks is a beauty. So many lovelies. The only ones I've lost got too much water. Next year, They will be under the cover of the trees. I need to get trays to put under them for water to create humidity inside for the winter. Do you mist yours in the winter? My fireplace is in that room.

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Good grief. And none of them are hardy for you? Do you move any to the greenhouse or hoop houses? I'm even afraid to look and see if you sell Begonias.

Lexington, VA(Zone 6a)

I had to search for the individual photos of each - are you ready?

Oh, I was so excited. I thought that you had a Betty boop Begonia, but yours looks a little different. Yes, shoot me up, PLEASE!!

Lexington, VA(Zone 6a)

Nope, just a hobby or addiction if you prefer :)

Oops, was going to identify those 'Dead or Alive' - previous one as well as this one, "Dead"

Really miss that one, this is the back side of the leaf. Of course, if we ever get in the vicinity of Baker's Acres again I know we won't be able to resist :)

Maybe "Gone" sounds better :)

Gone as of this summer :(

I'm sure these lovelies are gone but not forgotten. Does Baker's Acres sell anything but Begonias?

Lexington, VA(Zone 6a)

Yay, a survivor! Although I don't really like it and tried to sell it at the Open House a few weeks ago but no takers :(

Oh my, YES! They are probably best known for their Coleus, but they've got it ALL! If they ever decide to succumb and finally offer mail order, I'm in big trouble!!!

Gone...

Another survivor :) It's suffering though and will definitely need a larger pot next year!

What a shame, they are so wonderful.

Lexington, VA(Zone 6a)

Alive and thriving!! Just brought it inside last week and I'll have to get a picture, have had good success making more babies with this one during the summer to share with friends :)

Almost gone - have one leaf we salvaged and successfully rooted in our deck planter but I've got to remember to get it potted up soon!

That round leafed one is so cute. The spotted one looks a lot like my Marmaduke.

Lexington, VA(Zone 6a)

That's it! I always confuse it with Cowardly Lion. I was actually able to get a leaf cutting from CL this summer from a friend and it's finally rooted and I've got to get it potted up!

A Connie Boswell look-alike - Little Brother Montgomery. I actually have TWO of these!

Probably the last one for this morning - ALIVE and thriving! Easy to propagate and I've shared many with friends as well as sold a couple at the Open House :) I've got more photos just need to find them.

Deb, you are truly Hardcore. I find these plants to be fascinating. They are so interesting and always beautiful. One of a vast diverse group of plants that actually look better when they're not in bloom. A shady gardener's delight

Lexington, VA(Zone 6a)

Just call me an addict :) Found a couple more - Bonfire from last year. It didn't look as nice this summer but I didn't keep up my fertilizing routine like I usually do. Regardless it's still alive, has been cut back to bring inside for the winter and with a bump up to a larger pot for next year will hopefully look just as spectacular - also very easy to root from cuttings :)

Begonia grandis which happily reseeds throughout the gardens :)

Found a few more, need more enabling? LOL I probably posted these last fall - some of those we scored in June from BA but a lot of them alas, gone :(

You are making me sooooooo happy. To quote Mr. Brown, I feel Gooood. How old is your Grandis? I bought two Begonia Grandis Evansiana this summer. I can't quite tell them apart from the regular ones.

Lexington, VA(Zone 6a)

Still more...

I like that one in the middle.

Lexington, VA(Zone 6a)

LOL, glad it's making you happy - it's making me sad to think how many we've lost! That patch of Begonia grandis has probably been in the gardens for about 7 years but they've popped up here and there over the years. I've used this patch to grab babies each spring and planted them in other areas. We also have a white one which was planted at the same time as the pink but it still hasn't produced enough babies to get it started elsewhere.

The one on the left is the Begonia I tried to sell - I think next year I'm just going to bump it into a larger pot because it's definitely busting out of the one it's in!

One on the left is the one that's grown like crazy this year and very easy to propagate :)

Just call me a hopeless addict - this is one I picked up in Maine this summer :)

I can't imagine how long it takes you to water all of them.

Lexington, VA(Zone 6a)

Well...I guess that's why I lost so many of them! Last winter it took me almost an hour and half to get everything watered "properly". We still have a few more pots to bring inside in the next few weeks but I timed myself last week and it only took a half hour to water :)

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

nice stuff!!... some of these you posted I never saw before

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

RCN, What disappointed you about Metallic Mist?

Powder Springs, GA(Zone 7b)

It's too late to turn back now. Three hundred + is not enough anymore.

Here is a small view of some I have.

Hcmcdole, That is just beyond description. Lovely, lovely. Are any of them hardy in Ga?

Lexington, VA(Zone 6a)

I'll take a photo and then let you decide. The staff at Plant Delights warned me, it's fussy about being grown in a container but after seeing the photos I HAD to have it! I can't find the photo I thought I saved but it was of Dan Heims holding a huge specimen. I don't think mine is ever going to look like that :(

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

RCN, Last year I planted 2 Metallic Mist in moist shade and 2 in dry shade. The dry shade ones died within 10 days, The moist shade ones died a slow lingering death about 2 month's worth.
