CLOSED: Unidentified spider in bathroom

Lafayette, IN

I live in central Indiana. I have a spider living behind my medicine cabinet that comes out when I shower. He/she is brown with a black vertical stripe on the abdomen. I didn't get an incredibly close look at it but I think there were dots on or near that stripe. It's abdomen, I estimate, is about 1 inch in diameter. I'm trying to figure out what type of spider this is and whether or not it's dangerous. Any help would be appreciated. I will try to get a closer look next time he/she comes out. Anything specific I should look for?

This does not sound like anything dangerous; it may be a wolf or fishing spider, but an image would really help identify it.

I got another look at it tonight. Not sure if its the same one. Abdomen looks smaller than I remember but it's been a few days. Anyway, I noticed a black stripe on the thorax. It was a bit steamy in there, but I think it's a brown recluse. I know these things pack a nasty bite, but it hasn't acted aggressively. Any advice on dealing with it that don't involve killing?

Based on both its physical description and its behavior, it is exceedingly unlikely that this would be a recluse spider of any kind. If it comes out onto a flat surface, simply place a container such as a glass jar or plastic margarine bucket over it, slip a stiff piece of paper/thin cardboard under the opening of the container to hold the spider in place, then release it outdoors.

I got another look at it. It's definitely a wolf spider. I searched brown spider and the brown recluse was the top result. The more scary things I heard about it, the more I feared I had one. I found a few pictures of wolf spiders that look exactly like mine. Anyone know what these things eat? I'd hate for him/her to starve being stuck in my bathroom.

I'm not planning on feeding the spider. That sounds a little crazy. I might take him/her outside or to my basement if they'll provide a better environment.
