Don't know what kind of butterfly this is. Could it be the Painted Lady? Feeding on 'Chocolate' eupatorium, which is a BF magnet.

Another shot of that one.

oohh the Coral Nymph is very pretty

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Thanks! Those came up from seed this year from plants I bought last year. They are annuals here. Don't know if they're perennials in warmer zones. You will get blooms earlier if you start indoors.

very pretty... and good to know

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Karen I have Red Dragon Perc too, mine are newbies but I have high hopes.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

I didn't plant the seeds there, they just self seeded. I didn't even know that they would, and was pleasantly surprised when I saw them coming up. The VB self seeds very well, too. I don't mulch that bed, as I have a lot of self-seeders there that I like to encourage.

Jo Anne, I've had mine about 3 years now, or maybe it's closer to 4. They really get huge! They're crowding out many other things in that bed. I might still keep it, but will have to move other things to different beds, I guess. They DL's in there can't compete.

Thanks for the self seed tip I'll deadhead as there isnt another inch of space for little-uns

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

I haven't had that 'Red Dragon' self seed. It stays in a clump, but the clump keeps getting bigger. The 'Chocolate' eupatorium self seeds, at least according to Victor. I haven't had mine do that yet. The 'Painter's Palette' persicaria does self-seed very prolifically.

Sorry to mislead anyone,I read the post wrong

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Nice shots, Karen and Bill!

Chocolate not only self-seeds big-time, the seedlings are not true and don't have the nice dark foliage. Also, they are very prone to mildew.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

red knee high echi still blooming - has a little green eyes in it i think - not a flooper

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Thanks, Bill, Victor and Celeste.

Bill, your 'Wolf Eye' dogwood is very pretty.

Iris, I believe you're right on the butterfly ID. I think it is a Viceroy.

Thanks wha - officially entered in the Great Book of Lists. What a beaut and demure in stature to boot! Definitely meets the criteria for sunworthy in my garden.

Lots of goings on, seems like I missed a week instead of one morning. Wow, lots of pretty blooms still going on. Jo Ann, very pretty painting. Allison- yard looks very spooky, I like the creepies you made.
