A few for this week.

Thanks Judy. I'll post some pics soon. That actual Silver Charm bloom is 71/2 inches. I would say the majority of the blooms are between 7-9 inches and they're all doubles.

bummer jon, I just lost my Irish Eyes, I'd gotten a plug from EH a while back. I can't wait to see a picture of it blooming though. (hint...hint) ;-)

Very funny! Very Funny! Jon, LOL! you got me there, wasn't expecting that. Let you know #17 and #20 latter, other two I don't know.

BTW Jon, I have a question for you if you plant some seeds from crossing you've made and one or two seedling come out exactly identical as one of the parent plant, would you give it the same name as the parent plant it looks identical to, and if one of the seedling come out identical as the parent plant but in a darker tone do you put the word Dark in front of the parents plant name. here is an example of what I mean, one of my seedling came out identical to one of the parent plant "Painted Lady". there's another one but much darker than the parent plant, don't have photo right now, forgot to take photo last month but as soon as it re-blooms I will like this one does. Any advise on what to do appreciated, thanks.

New seedling Identical to one parent hib. ( Painted Lady )

That's a question I'm not sure how to answer. At a hibiscus meeting I asked a question regarding this issue. I asked that if you cross pollinate two varieties and it sets seeds, how do you know the seeds are a result of your crossing and not just the host plant setting seeds on its own? I was told you can be pretty sure the seeds are from your cross pollinating, as few varieties will set seeds, true to form, all on their own.
Even though your bloom looks very very similar to one of the parent plants, I would assume its the result of the crossing, and that "Painted Lady" is just more dominant in the genetic makeup of the plant. For the reasons listed above, I would give it a completely new name even though it looks very similar to the parent plant.

Thanks Jon, now do you see how much your knowledge and advise can help others, I had a feeling close to what you mention but needed a more secure answer from a knowledgeable person like you with more experience in this field, I'm still in the learning stage compared to you, I've only been working with hibs for two years only. Both seedling bloomed almost a month ago and I didn't know what to do with the name, I was going to let them grow for a period of time to see if the growth habit were different from the original one before posting it or naming it at all, second hib just might name it Dark Lady if it keep blooming as dark as the first two blooms did. any way thank you so much Jon, glad your back with us on the forum, aways learn something from you.

No problem Wilfred. I think you know more about hibiscus than I do. I've only had them for 2 1/2 years and basically just collect them. I've only attempted a few cross pollinations, have grafted just a couple and have never tried growing any from cuttings yet. Any of the knowledge I do have is from reading about things online, remembering from my own personal experiences and asking quite a few questions at hibiscus meetings. I hope I give accurate information but I'm not always 100% sure.

The info you've given me has always been "right on the money" Jon. I wish you could see how good the hibbies are looking at the church. I need to take a picture of the two I sent you that were sick. They are looking so much better. I am amazed. I thought I was going to have to replace that one really sick one but it seems to be bouncing back. The monthly ES and either MG or hibbie fertilizer is working wonders. The hibbies are starting to really get nice and dark green instead how yellow they were when I first started taking care of them.

Thanks again!

Patty
