Hi,
Wow, you found some great plants.Gooseberries is beautiful!

You can also propagate a sinningia leaf by cutting out the vein, like a strep leaf.I've had good luck doing this with mini's and the large speciosa leaves.Excuse my mess on the work table ^_^

Thanks, Jan. I didn't take the mid vein out of mine. Will do it when I have some more leaves from David.......thanks so much for the idea!!! I only used the petiole.

Nottingham, MD(Zone 7a)

Wow, you guys leaves look so big. I need to take another pic of my whole plant so you can tell me if the leaves are big enough to put down.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Gro Happy..........they weren't big when I planted them. They have grown 3 times in size.........

would I just snip off one of these big leaves and stick it like I would a violet leaf?

The article mentioned getting some nodes, but I don't see any on mine.

Maybe ( I am not the sinningia expert....lol) I would just let it settle in for awhile, get used to your house and when it is bigger , attempt something fun with it.

Williston, ND

a sinn leaf will root and make a tuber, but sometimes they wont resprout, bonnie can say more as shes the sinn expert think they are called blind tubers,

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Jim, I did it with a lot of my smaller sinningias and they bloomed again........and formed tubers......I don't understand the two words 'determinate' and 'indeterminate'.

Williston, ND

growhappy;
you have a couple of plants in the pot of your sinningia, look inside the pot & you will see 2 different stems with leaves, all you have to do is cut the smallest one out & pot it up with a dome , it will get it's own tuber in a couple weeks. Also, when you put down a leaf & this alpplies to all sinns except the micro's you can get a blind tuber, which means it will never bloom, but thats not all the time, so it is worth a try.It just takes awhile to get the tuber.cuttings are much faster.

:)

thank you Bonnie, very helpful. I'm going at it this evening when I get home from work!

Shanika, I don't know how I missed this thread!!! How gorgeous is all that stuff??!! I love Sinn 'Georgia Sunset' the best, followed by AV 'Rob's Gooseberries' and of course 'Harmony's Little Stinker'! You hit the jackpot.

Once you learn how to propage Sinns, I would love a start of GS. I've got some Sinns I could share with you, too, if you decide you want to get into them. Sinns are my favorites, after Petrocosmeas. I kinda think of it as Pets being my fave foliage-wise, because they don't bloom all the time, and Sinns are my favorite for the flowers. ^_^

Williston, ND

See bonnie knows about sinningias, smart lady,
and shes freinds with me soo that makes her extra smart lol.ok im goofy from the cough syrup codine and phenagren

Goodness, Jim! That's a powerful combination! Are you alright?

Williston, ND

Get well, Jim!

I'm sticking to av's and streps- learning to raise them right- before I venture into other gessies... do hold me to that!
