IKE was just last Fall, 2008. Almost took Galveston, TX off the map.
Recovering from Hurricane Jimane
Yes, now I remember, thanks Christi
glad so far you haven't received more hurricanes, Katie. i keep you in my prayers.
Jeanne, IKE must have been horrible! thankfully where we are situated, we are quited protected.
Isaac
Goodness, Katie. Is there nothing a little easier than moving tree trunks and rocks? Since back surgery in 08 I am much more careful about what I lift.
Isaac, we were very blessed here in Baytown. Others South of us were devastated. Several areas directly on the Gulf were leveled. It was really bad there.
Katiebear, please be careful and don't overdo!
Jeanne
Tina and extranjera,
Are you in the path of IDA?
Hap

I am not in the path. Thanks for your concern!
Extranjera may be, it is heading that was.
Tina
Someone had parked so I couldn't get to the logs which are dried up palms and can be rolled anyway. I settled for draging out lumber and starting the compost bin.Trying to wear my body out enough to be able to sleep well. I've been having yukky dreams. Not nightmares, just unpleasant.
I do take care, partly because of the concern expressed by my friends here. Tony has had back problems while I've been blessed with a fairly strong one. We joke about his needing me to do the hard work. Actually, he usually does it but has been known to ask me for help to protect his own. Very unusual for a Mexican man (maybe for any man, but especially a Mexican).

Ida seems to be heading our way. I'm over on the coast at our condo now and have been looking at the projections. Who knows, they never quite have it right this far out so I'm not getting the storm curtains out. First Ida has to pass over the Nicaraugua peninsula, then has time to build out over the caribbean and then they think she will head up between us and Cuba as a Tropical Storm. We'll see. The waters are still very warm so it will depend on the steering winds whether she develops more or fades away. I have a friend on Isla Mujeres that was going to come over and stay here for a few days this weekend and do some snorkling but he just emailed that he is staying home in case he has to close up, he also figures that we'll get storm surge either way and the snorkling won't be so good.
I'm due to return to the city on Friday, if Ida is still a threat I may have to come back over to put up the storm curtains. Let's hope that doesn't happen.
I think the main damage for now is going to be in Honduras and Nicaraugua from flooding, they've already had a lot of rain and some mudslides.
And we thought we were all clear for this year.....DERN!!!
Keeping fingers crossed for you.
Ida has just been downgraded to a tropical storm again, with winds below 65MPG.
Ida is now inland and downgraded to a Tropical Storm, and will move very slowly now across northeastern Nicaragua.
As of 1 PM EST, Tropical Storm Ida was located about 65 miles south-southwest of Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua with top winds of 65 mph.
The current movement is stationary.

That's not good.
Well, it's actually mixed blessings. On the good side: it is no longer a hurricane. On the bad side, it is stationnary, which means that the people affected by the storm will be dealing with it for longer than if the storm were moving at, say 15 MPH. Let us hope it peters out quickly with no loss of lives and as little damage as possible.
Sylvain.
