Hotel Travelling - A Safety Reminder

Victoria, TX(Zone 9b)

Had this happen to me over the weekend, and while I was in safe company, and didn't have to worry about it, any one of you may not be so lucky.

DO NOT EVER EVER EVER let the hotel clerk tell you how to get to your room during check-in. Don't let them say the room # out loud, don't let them point to the elevator, or the stairs, or anything.

Why? Because you have no idea who else might be around, listening in, preparing to follow you to the room, to mug you, rob you of your things, or worse. This isn't just a ladies' warning, either. Unless you've got a super fast trigger finger (and the appropriate permits), you're putting yourself in grave danger by letting the clerk tell you and everyone else around where you're sleeping for the night.

Instead, ask for a map. Go sit in your vehicle & figure out how to get there. Still not sure? Go up to the room first, without your bags, then go get them later once you have a safe route to the room marked in your mind.

FYI.. A little public safety announcement. :)

I've never thought about it but you can see how it could happen.
