Found this walking across our patio today. We live in Ontario, Canada and have never seen a spider this big.
It went on the defense throwing it's front legs up when a stick was put near it. It jumped all over it rather aggressively . It lost one of it's back legs on it's left side as well.

looks like it might be a wolf spider of some kind. Maybe that will help a little.
This is indeed a wolf spider (family Lycosidae), but I am uncertain as to its specific identity.
thanks everyone....we did end up finding a picture of it on another website identifying it as "a wolf spider". I've never come across one this large before. and of course, we have kids and puppies..and were not feeling very welcoming of it. Thank you.
