Girl, i cant even enlarge that spider picture to take a look at it. I HAVE ONE FEAR AND ITS SPIDERS. I tried to talk myself into looking at your spider picture, but i just cant do it...Sometimes after dark, i am outside doing stuff in my flower gardens. I have been known to prune way after dark, dig, plant etc etc...I always wonder how many spiders went crawling over my hands when working in the dark. Sometimes i think i dont mind being in the dirt after dark because i cant see the bugs (spiders) then. Its out of sight out of mind for me. My mom put the fear of spiders in me when i was a little tiny girl. I will have to tell ya the story sometime, but anyway, i think its genetic, cause my daughter cant get near a spider either. Lol..i passed the fear on to her. I can barely look at a daddy long leg. Isnt that terrible!! I love nature, and outdoors, and most every animal there is, but little critters (mostly spiders) give me with willies, big time. Something about creatures that startle a person, gets me every time. Dont do mice well either. How about u? Also what kind of spider did u decide it was under your rose of sharon? I couldnt even click the link that someone sent u, cause i figured it will show spider pictures...grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

This spider is indeed an orb weaver (family Araneidae); likely in the genus Araneus, all are harmless to humans.

twohassles43 Knowledge is power. Go slow put learn all you can find and the fear will leave. I over came all my fears that way. That does not mean I go play with spiders or snakes. LOL Put I read all I could find and one day I touched a snake and it felt like velvet. I even get my DM over her big fear of snakes and she does not like them but no longer panics.

Thanks Sandy. That is a good idea. Believe it or not, one time i did hold a trantula in my hand. I was very young then, and go brave enough to hold it, as it belonged to a friend of mine. As it was passed to my hand, it was leaving a web behind. Looking back, i cannot believe that i held a spider like that, and still have such a fear of them. I do respect and love all of nature, and would love to not have such a fear of spiders. Your advice might be of help.
