Attn: UK members, I need help

I am a big Harry Potter fan and there is one word that has been driving me crazy. What is NOSH. Harry's gardian father's sister refers to a meal that she has just eaten and says that it was an excelent Nosh. I am assuming that it is kind of like a roast or something along that line. ????????? Please

Nosh can mean food or drink, or a between-meals snack. I'm an ex-Brit, but I consulted the Oxford English Dictionary just to make sure of the meaning, and was surprised to learn that the word comes from Yiddish.

Yes, I'm from a Yiddish speaking family. A nosh, not capitalized BTW, is a casual reference to a snack. Not a drink. I'd not think of it like the after school milk and cookies either, though that does count as a nosh. A nosh is food that tides you over until the next meal, that late afternoon, pre-dinner snack. Often family members don't want to be accused of having head-in-the-fridge syndrome and will claim they were "just having a nosh", (as in a super-sized Jewish style taste). LOL

Oh, okay, thanks
