CLOSED: What type of caterpillar is this?
This is undoubtedly a Tussock moth (Family Lymantriidae) caterpillar. My Audubon Field guide has a picture of a "White-marked Tussock Moth" (Orgyia leucostigma) caterpillar that is almost identical to your picture. The only difference is your caterpillar's long tail hairs are light brown, while the one I see is jet black.
