Can someone identify these guys? They look like beetles.

Found these chaps on a blade of grass. Each would be about 3 of 4 mm long. Never seen such insects before. They look like beetles to me, but I'm not sure. Photograph taken in Trivandrum, Kerala, India.

These are leaf beetles (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) in the subfamily Hispinae, but I can't say more that that at present.
